As Black History Month comes to a close, Henry Greene, DO, internist at Baptist Primary Care Regency Square, reflects on the impact of faith, family and mentorship in his journey. A Jacksonville native and Sandalwood High graduate, he found his calling in health care at Baptist Health, where he serves with purpose and passion.?? Q: Is there anyone that you especially admired or looked up to growing up? Who and why? A: Both of my parents have been sources of inspiration. They are hard-working and encouraged me to pursue excellence. I believe my Dad instilled and demonstrated the importance of dedication and discipline. I believe my Mom instilled and demonstrated the importance of compassion, kindness, and sacrifice. They made sure that I was rooted in my Christian faith. Q: Did you always want to work in health care? A: I wanted to be a jet fighter pilot or a physician growing up. Neither one of those professions seemed to be realistic. I did not possess the confidence or discipline that was required. Thankfully, God placed great people in my life including a nurse named Lane who used to work in post-op recovery at Baptist downtown. Whenever I would see her, she would ask if I enrolled in college and would offer to pay for my courses. Her kindness and belief in me was a key motivating factor in changing my professional trajectory. Q: Why did you choose to work at Baptist? A: I chose to work at Baptist because of the culture and the people. I had the privilege of doing some of my medical school rotations in the system. I knew that it could be a great fit personally and professionally. Many of the people that I met became mentors and friends and have helped me accomplish my goals. Q: What does Black History Month mean to you? A: Black History Month is an opportunity to commemorate and celebrate the accomplishments of Black leaders, inventors, and scientists who have made historic and meaningful contributions to American society. Q: Is there a message you would like to pass on to today’s Black youth or to the Black community in general? A: I want to encourage Black youth and the Black community in general to: ponder and prioritize, pursue excellence, persevere through persecution, pioneer and prosper. #BaptistProud

Congratulations to Deborah Abram, MD, chief medical information officer, on being named a CMIO to Know by Becker's Healthcare! HEART CARE AT BEACHES JUST GOT STRONGER: Baptist Medical Center Beaches has unveiled the new Baptist Beaches Cardiology Center, a state-of-the-art, 28,000-square-foot facility offering a full spectrum of outpatient heart services—all in one convenient location. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S., and in the Beaches community, where a fifth of residents are over 65, the need for heart care services is growing rapidly. The renovated space increases the number and size of exam rooms from 18 to 24. The heart center has eight general cardiologists in addition to three electrophysiologists who treat patients with heart rhythm disorders. The new center also features: ?? A full array of advanced non-invasive diagnostic testing, from nuclear stress tests to advanced heart imaging for quick and accurate diagnoses. ?? A cardiac rehabilitation center, where physicians, dietitians and exercise physiologists provide patients information about heart health, physical fitness, nutrition and stress management. Through monitored exercise treatment sessions, patient education and lifestyle coaching, patients recover from cardiac events to live healthier lifestyles. ?? Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine – an outpatient treatment program for wound treatment, including hyperbaric oxygen therapy, which uses high-pressure oxygen to help wounds heal. ?? Touch-screen interactive monitors in exam rooms where patients can learn about heart disease, watch procedure videos and view 3D anatomical hearts to better understand their condition and treatment. “We’re extremely grateful to the Franklands for their generous gift,” said Hospital President Jarret Dreicer, FACHE, MHA, MS. “We’re thrilled to open this expanded cardiology center, a true center of excellence, where heart patients can receive world-class care to keep living life to the fullest. BREAKING GROUND ON A HEALTHIER FUTURE: The Seven Pines community of Jacksonville will soon welcome a new Baptist HealthPlace campus! Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines will feature two state-of-the-art medical office buildings. The first building will house a new Baptist Primary Care practice, with offices for family medicine and internal medicine physicians, plus offices for cardiologists with Baptist Heart Specialists. It will also feature a wellness center offering health and wellness resources and programs, such as wellness coaching, educational classes on preventive health care and talks with physicians and other local health experts. Plans for the second medical office building include a potential ambulatory surgery center with imaging and laboratory services, designed with the flexibility to expand and adapt as the community’s health care needs evolve. “With the capacity to expand services over time, Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines is an investment in the long-term health and well-being of this community,” said Michael A. Mayo, DHA, FACHE, president and CEO of Baptist Health. “This approach underscores Baptist Health’s dedication to providing easy access to the exceptional care Jacksonville’s residents so rightly deserve.” The campus is located near Butler Boulevard and I-295, just east of St. Johns Town Center, within the master-planned community of Seven Pines. Situated between Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South and Baptist Medical Center Beaches, and just down the road from Baptist & Wolfson Town Center Emergency Room, Baptist HealthPlace at Seven Pines is ideally positioned to function as a central outpatient hub for residents in need of both preventive health care and services to manage ongoing medical conditions.
