?? An excellent #Review to read this #weekend! Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of L-Methylfolate Augmentation in Depressive Disorders ? by Abdullah M., Ethan Poweleit, Lisa C. Brown, PhD, Jeffrey Strawn, and Chad Bousman ?? Almost one in five people experience one episode of major depressive disorder (MDD) at some point in their life that severely impacts #psychosocial functioning and diminishes their quality of life. ? ?? Partial response to #pharmacotherapy is common in MDD and many patients require alternative pharmacotherapy or augmentation, including adjunctive L-methylfolate. ? ?? Given that L-methylfolate augmentation is rarely included in major clinical practice guidelines, this Review sought to systematically review evidence for L-methylfolate augmentation in adults with MDD and to examine its efficacy meta-analytically. ? ??Read the full article on: https://lnkd.in/duVE7ep5 ? #MentalHealth #MajorDepressiveDisorder

?? An?#OpenAccess?read for your #weekend! Low Escitalopram Concentrations in Patients with Depression predict Treatment Failure: A Naturalistic Retrospective Study ? by Dr. Xenia M. Hart, Friederike Amann,?Jonas Brand, Luzie Eichentopf, and Gerhard Gründer ? ?? This retrospective study examines the treatment effects of Escitalopram (also known as Lexapro or Cipralex) and pharmacokinetic influences on blood levels. ? ?? The sample data comprised 134 patients aged from 14 to 89 years, most of which were diagnosed with #depression. ?? The findings strongly support the recommended threshold of 15 ng/mL for the antidepressant efficacy of escitalopram and emphasize the need for therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) to support decisions on dosing in individuals. ? ??Read the full article today: https://lnkd.in/dp7r2bSB #MentalHealth

?? A great weekend read from Pharmacopsychiatry today: "ABC Family Gene Polymorphisms and Cognitive Functions Interact to Influence Antidepressant Efficacy" by Meijiang Jin,?Lei Ji,?Maojia Ran,?Zhujun Wang,?Yan Bi,?Hang Zhang,?Yuanmei Tao,?Hanmei Xu,Shoukang Zou,?Hong Zhang,?Tao Yu,?Li Yin (West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Chengdu) ?? The importance of identifying relevant indicators of #antidepressant efficacy is highlighted by the low response rates to antidepressant #treatment for depression. The ABC gene family, encoding ATP-dependent transport proteins facilitating the transport of #psychotropic drugs, has drawn attention. This study delved into the relationship between antidepressant efficacy and seven single nucleotide polymorphisms of ABCB1 and ABCB6 genes. ??
