Those responsible for residential and commercial properties with adjacent sidewalks are responsible for removing snow and ice after weather events. Failing to clear sidewalks may lead to a fine of $100 per day. Focus areas include sidewalks adjacent to businesses and apt./condo complexes; along roads within 1.5 miles of schools; along State and County roads; slippery sidewalks reported to PGC311; and those abutting major public gathering places, such as churches. While some projects may not require a building permit, it is always best to check if you need a permit before starting your project to avoid violations and fines!

The program is managed to comply with FEMA rules and regulations. Prince George’s County is approved by the FEMA Community Rating System (CSR) program, which then allows County residents access to more affordable, federally backed flood insurance.
