PCs for People is a nonprofit social enterprise working to close the digital divide by providing high-quality refurbished computers, low-cost mobile internet service, and digital education to low-income individuals and families. Through our free IT asset disposition and secure electronics recycling services, PCs for People - Maryland offers pickup of retired computers and related equipment for businesses and organizations throughout the region. What we can refurbish is delivered to low-income children and families in Maryland. Non-working or outdated equipment is recycled, with any proceeds benefiting our digital literacy programs, technical support services, and subsidized internet access. Our recycling and data sanitization practices provide: ● Security: NAID AAA-certified data sanitization meeting DOD, NIST, and HIPAA standards ● Sustainability: R2-certified environmentally and socially responsible recycling ● Financial Benefit: Completely free pickup, recycling, and data wiping and donations of equipment are tax-deductible ● Community Benefit: We transform your e-waste into life changing technology Founded in 2008 in St. Paul, MN, PCs for People has worked with more than 1,500 business partners nationwide. To date, we’ve provided refurbished computers to more than 300,000 people, connected more than 120,000 households to low-cost internet, and diverted 8 million pounds of e-waste from landfills. In 2020, with the support of the Robert W. Deutsch Foundation and the Abell Foundation, PCs for People opened in Baltimore, a city where more than 50,000 households lack computers and internet service. In a world where employment opportunities, government services, and education increasingly rely on digital connectivity, it is imperative that historically disadvantaged communities have the digital access to engage. In early 2021, PCs for People - Maryland opened its storefront location at 2901 E. Biddle St. in East Baltimore.
