This year’s PACK EXPO was a fantastic opportunity to dive into some of the latest advancements pushing our industry forward. With 2,600 exhibitors, the expo provided a close look at innovations aimed at keeping us competitive and tackling our most complex challenges. ? I had a chance to chat with Lisa McTigue Pierce of Packaging Digest (with John Henry and Meaghan Ziemba) about what I learned regarding mono-material recyclable films, which typically run slower. I discussed how major film companies are developing multi-layer mono structure films that offer manufacturing increased tolerances to run better on the equipment. These innovations help create faster seals and prevent issues like film distortion when lines shut down. Techniques like adding Teflon tape to heat seal jaws or using an air jet for cooling are helping these films match the performance of multi-layer structures, bringing us closer to sustainable packaging solutions. ?
