Flexible, team-oriented school staffing models—like our grantees Public Impact, Education Consultants’ Opportunity Culture initiative and Arizona State University Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College’s Next Education Workforce—disrupt the traditional “one-teacher, one-classroom” approach, with benefits for both students and educators. “A student might spend some time receiving direct instruction from a master teacher, then work in small groups, or practice a skill by themselves,” explains Chad Aldeman. “From a teacher’s perspective, the teams replace isolation with collaboration and make the job more sustainable. Team members work together to identify student needs and plan instruction. This approach helps beginners transition into the classroom and gives team members time to compare notes, which can also help if the district is pursuing some large initiative such as adopting a new curriculum."

??? "Time is precious in education, and Opportunity Culture? models let me make every second count." Teaching team leader Brian Tavenner shares how shifting from traditional whole-group instruction to extensive use of small groups transformed his ability to connect with students. Instead of rushing around the classroom, reaching only a few students during class, he can address common challenges in small groups and see what each student needs--and meet that need. More effective teaching. More meaningful learning. This is the power of Opportunity Culture? staffing models. ??Hear more in 3 podcast episodes about Winchester Public Schools : https://loom.ly/sCsGC48

When all five of the largest districts in North Carolina use Opportunity Culture models, and when NC has the most schools among the 14 states that have used these models thanks in part to bipartisan legislative support for advanced teaching roles, we feel the love! Thanks for letting spread the word even further, North Carolina School Boards Association! https://lnkd.in/efbFywwk
"We love Opportunity Culture roles!" So glad to be in my home state! It is so exciting to be in a space where educators have designed and implemented Opportunity Culture models in their districts AND where educators are learning about the initiative for the first time. It was an amazing opportunity to share and learn. Thank you to the North Carolina School Boards Association for having us!

As so many teaching team leaders tell us, these roles create "the best of both worlds" for them--leading adults without leaving the classroom!
"So this is real, true teacher leadership!" A Virginia educator said after I described Opportunity Culture roles. Yes it is, Opportunity Culture models create roles for great teachers to lead teams of teachers, providing the support teachers need, producing excellent outcomes for kids. Thank you to the VIRGINIA ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL PERSONNEL ADMINISTRATORS for having us as a first time partner. We look forward to continued conversations with educators.
