  • The OAP is excited to spotlight: Emily Reed, PA-C in otolaryngology! ??????♀????????? What is your favorite part of working in your field? I love being able to help provide solutions for patients with chronic diseases. Many of our patients have seen multiple providers by the time they reach a sub-speciality. I also love the variety of patients I see and because of my background in oncology prior to PA school, I have a special place in my heart for the sinonasal cancers as well. What led you to OHSU? After growing up in Eugene, OHSU was the place for the highest level of care, a place you went for the most complex problems. This intrigued me. I was fortunate to work in clinical research here prior to PA school, then attended?@ohsu_pa?where my love for the community and faculty grew further. I encountered a few big life obstacles during PA school and the faculty really supported me. Then, I found a team at the Sinus Center who was equally supportive and excited to train a new graduate. When I interviewed, I knew it was a team I would be fortunate to be a part of. I have continued to feel the same way since. What does being an APP mean to you? Listening, encouraging, and caring. It means helping patients through some of their most challenging life moments and feeling proud of the work you do and confident you provided care to the best of your ability. Dream job as a kid? Anything in medicine! By high school, I was volunteering at our local hospital and quickly knew that a career in medicine would greatly fulfill me. What do you like to do for fun? I love working out, running, hiking, wine tasting, playing fetch with our mini Aussie, Lola, and hanging out with my husband and our newest addition, Liam, our 8-month-old bundle of joy. What is your favorite thing to do/eat/explore in Oregon? Cannon Beach and Hood River. We love a great day or weekend trip to either place. Local favorites -?@sidereuswinery,?@sixpeakswinery, Three Mugs, Monkey Subs,?@dollyolive_bardolly, Carina Lounge, and Westgate Bourbon Bar. Emoji to describe you? ??

It’s truly wild the degree of change you can make for a patient with a procedure that requires only a centimeter long incision and some wires and catheters. What led you to OHSU? I am an alumna of the OHSU program. I had a great experience in school here and was excited to have the opportunity to stay and work here. What does being an APP mean to you? It means being able to deliver high quality, compassionate care to patients in need.
