Castle halls were filled with talk of advancing disability rights yesterday. The second day of the #G7 Ministerial on Inclusion and Disability, at the Castle of Solfagnano, included knowledge exchange and a closer look at ways to advance people with disabilities on the international stage. “I believe we are at a watershed moment to advance the rights of disabled people where there is a consensus building that ensuring the inclusion of people with disabilities is not only the right thing to do, but it is a necessity for us to build vibrant economies where every person can pursue their life’s ambition. But this is not the work of one meeting, charter, or treaty; it will take at least a generation to fulfill the goals and aspirations of this moment here in Italy” —ODEP Assistant Secretary Taryn Williams, on a panel speaking to international leaders on disability inclusive employment.

Our Assistant Secretary attended the opening ceremony yesterday in Italy as part of the U.S. delegation to this momentous meeting of leaders. By elevating disability inclusion to the highest levels of discussion and harnessing each other’s commitment to share knowledge, we’re moving toward fully advancing disability inclusion in the workplace and building a more equitable world.

For example, a student council might invite a local community leader with a disability to a meeting to speak about his or her experiences.
