The End of #VenuSports and Disney's Bold Pursuit of vMVPD Leadership The ambitious joint venture between Disney, Fox, and Warner Bros. Discovery to launch Venu Sports, a groundbreaking streaming service, has officially come to an end. A lawsuit from Fubo blocked the launch of the platform, which promised to combine linear TV channels, on-demand sports content, and ESPN+ access. But Disney isn’t giving up the game. The company has its sights firmly set on the top of the vMVPD market, currently dominated by YouTube TV. Their latest move? Combining Hulu’s and FuboTV’s live TV assets into a powerful new venture, with Disney owning a commanding 70% stake. While the end of Venu may seem like a setback, it might actually be a blessing in disguise. Questions about its pricing and audience appeal loomed large. Meanwhile, other players like DirecTV are stepping in with new packages and aggregation tools, aiming to redefine how fans experience live sports.
