This is massive news. Amazon is investing $500M in X-energy to develop small modular reactors and power its data centers with carbon-free electricity. The partnership aims to bring 5 gigawatts of new power projects online across the United States by 2039 — the largest commercial deployment target of SMRs to date — starting with a four-unit 320-megawatt project with Energy Northwest in central Washington. X-Energy’s Xe-100 reactor is a high-temperature gas reactor that they say can’t melt down and is designed to produce electricity more efficiently. The company's initial Xe-100 demonstration project in Seadrift, Texas, is one of two Advanced Reactor Demonstration Projects supported by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). ??: X-energy Learn more: https://bit.ly/3BLpQTX

Advancing new technologies to help meet future clean energy goals with nuclear energy ??.
关于我们
The Office of Nuclear Energy (NE) mission is to advance nuclear power to meet the nation's energy, environmental, and national security needs. Under the guidance of three research objectives, NE resolves barriers to technical, cost, safety, security, and proliferation resistance through early-stage research, development, and demonstration to: -Enhance the long-term viability and competitiveness of the existing U.S. reactor fleet. -Develop an advanced reactor pipeline. -Implement and maintain national strategic fuel cycle and supply chain infrastructure.

The future of artificial intelligence will run on carbon-free power. More and more tech industry leaders like Google are turning to clean energy like advanced nuclear to meet AI's high energy demand and drive scientific innovation without harming our climate. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and our White House partners have held a series of convenings with hyperscalers laying out how the tech world can power operations and data centers with clean energy. It's encouraging to see leaders in the industry heed this call in a way that drives innovation and gets us closer to the Biden-Harris Administration’s ambitious goal of a nation powered by 100% clean energy by 2035.

NEWS: U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) just awarded contracts to 6 companies for high-assay low-enriched uranium deconversion services. The contracts will last for up to 10 years with each awardee receiving a minimum of $2 million to turn HALEU hexafluoride gas into various metal or oxide forms that can be made into fuel for advanced reactors. The HALEU acquired through DOE’s contracts will support the department’s two demonstration projects with X-energy and TerraPower. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eYq435rj
