In under a year, NOAA NOS, EPIC, NCAR, and others established the UFS Coastal App, integrating key ocean, wave, and weather models to support coastal forecasting. Leveraging Unified Workflow Tools and CI/CD pipelines, this project streamlined development, allowing for efficient testing and faster integration of model components. The success of this effort highlights the power of coordinated engineering practices and open-source tools to advance coastal prediction capabilities for U.S. communities. NOAA is dedicated to enhancing extreme weather forecasts with innovative Earth System models. The Global Forecast System version 17 (GFSv17) will bring medium-range forecasts at a 9-kilometer scale, while the Global Ensemble Forecast System version 13 (GEFSv13) will provide sub-seasonal forecasts at 25 kilometers. Together, GFSv17/GEFSv13 physics suites are the starting point of the atmospheric component of UFS-based Seasonal Forecast System (SFSv1), paving the way for seasonal forecasts at a 50-kilometer resolution. • EPIC and the UFS Community are proud to announce the public release of the UFS Land Data Assimilation (DA) System v2.0.0. This release reflects changes currently available in the UFS land-DA_workflow development branch. It features a coupled configuration that combines the UFS WM Noah-MP land component with the data atmosphere (DATM) component. Its data assimilation framework uses the Joint Effort for Data assimilation Integration (JEDI) software stack. Key features include an updated workflow that better conforms to NCO Implementation Standards; integration of uwtools to generate the Rocoto workflow XML file from a structured, YAML-based configuration layer; and validation of analysis outputs using both the CTest framework and the baseline regression test.
