Climate change is expected to reduce oxygen levels in the coastal zone. Accurate projections of estuarine oxygen levels are necessary for developing management strategies that reduce the negative impacts of hypoxia. NCCOS-supported researchers investigated differences in future hypoxia projected by a regional model of the Chesapeake Bay using three different climate change scenario methodological approaches: continuous, delta and time slice simulations.? NOAA’s marine spatial planning and spatial suitability modeling helps inform BOEM’s offshore wind lease planning process. A recent workshop hosted by NOAA and Bureau of Ocean Energy Management allowed scientists to identify data needs in federal waters off Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina to better inform the placement of offshore wind. https://lnkd.in/egPgDbQF #OffshoreWind

In September 1999, the first NOAA harmful algal bloom bulletin was issued for the Gulf of Mexico. By 2000, the HAB bulletins were updated to include satellite imagery. By September 2001, NOAA began forecasting the likelihood of blooms to appear.
