It’s #NationalSeafoodMonth. As the demand for U.S. seafood increases, so does the science and technology needed to source safe, sustainable and plentiful protein in the form of farmed seafood. That’s all thanks to a practice called aquaculture! Travel to the frontier of marine farming on episode 8 of the Planet NOAA Podcast: SEA-stainability.? Listen now: https://lnkd.in/eEhTrwJU

Science serving coastal communities
关于我们
The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science was formed in 1999 as the focal point for NOAA’s coastal ocean science efforts. We help NOAA meet its coastal stewardship and management responsibilities, and we provide coastal managers with the scientific information necessary to decide how best to protect environmental resources and public health, preserve valued habitats, and improve the way communities interact with coastal ecosystems. Our work includes: -Coastal Change: Vulnerability, Mitigation, and Restoration -Marine Spatial Ecology -Social Science -Stressor Impacts and Mitigation

At NCCOS’ busy Kasitsna Bay Laboratory, researchers study aspects of coastal ecosystems ranging from microscopic algae to sea otters in Kachemak Bay. In fact, this lab is so busy that from 2002-2023 it has hosted 11,500 students and scientists who have stayed on campus for a combined 49,500 nights!? https://lnkd.in/ecSkXX6q? #25YearsofNCCOS

Miami’s sea level has risen by more than four inches since 1994 and is projected to continue rising. With future climate change expected to exacerbate septic system failure, NCCOS-funded researchers conducted a study to help Miami-Dade County identify areas most in need of septic-to-sewer conversions to protect people and the environment from wastewater contamination. https://lnkd.in/ebPnEzAP #SeaLevelRise #SeaLevel

The most direct approach to restoring deep coral communities that were impacted by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill is to help new corals grow and reproduce, with the goal to repopulate the impacted areas. Propagating corals at these depths has rarely been attempted so each new step is pushing the boundaries of coral restoration. Hear how this team is expanding our understanding of deep sea corals during a LIVE discussion with scientists.? Join us Wednesday, 10/9 at 2 p.m. CDT: https://lnkd.in/eUVKY7pD
