Fantastic take from Christiana on the potential of Continuous Hormone Monitoring. Drawing from her work in the early stages of our latest sprint, she’s uncovering exciting opportunities at the intersection of precision medicine, wearable technology, and preventive healthcare??? Stay tuned for more insights on the journey!
??? HOT TAKE ??? Continuous hormone monitoring is the future of healthcare. ?? Hormones regulate nearly every bodily function—from metabolism to mood, immunity to reproduction. Yet, our understanding of their full impact has been limited, partly due to historically complicated data collection and bias (i.e. underrepresentation of women in clinical research). ?? Continuous hormone monitoring (CHM) offers real-time, personalized data on hormone levels, helping us better understand how these key molecules influence our health. This is especially important as we face rising exposure to endocrine disruptors—chemicals that interfere with hormone systems in the environment. A few applications that I see in the near future: ?? Diabetes Management -- Continuously track insulin levels to optimize insulin therapy in real time, improving blood sugar control and reducing the risk of complications. ?? Stress and Mental Health -- Track cortisol levels throughout the day to identify patterns of stress and adrenal fatigue, enabling proactive management of mental health, sleep quality, and burnout prevention. ?? Menstrual Cycle and Fertility Tracking -- Continuously monitor estrogen, progesterone, and luteinizing hormone (LH) to predict ovulation windows, improving fertility awareness and supporting better family planning decisions. So how real is this technology? Very! Several startups are racing to put the first CHM's in the market as early as next year! ?? Level Zero Health ?? Impli ?? POM Health ?? Eli Health From a user-centric design-thinking perspective, I ask: ? HMW integrate hormone data into daily routines in a way that doesn’t feel disruptive or overwhelming to users? ?HMW design hormone monitoring systems that adapt to specific life stages, like puberty, pregnancy, menopause, or aging? ?HMW integrate continuous hormone data into clinical trials to better stratify patients by hormonal profiles, improving treatment personalization? #HealthTech #Innovation #Startups

?? January at the Mission Studio ?? What a month! Here's a quick rundown of what's happened at Mission Studio back in January: ?? We kicked off our second sprint, this time with Nesta's A Healthy Life mission - we ended January by reviewing and refining initial problem areas to explore, including GLP-1 disruption and scaling Challenger Brands. We’ll be sharing more this February! ??? As for Mendara (our latest concept, which enables support for mothers struggling with birth trauma), we’ve made exciting strides in MVP development and have agreement in principle with an amazing founder! ?? We held our first Founder Afternoon at our offices in London, where our portfolio teams were able to connect IRL - here’s to many more, and thank you to our ventures for joining! ?? We’re continuing to add value to our ventures across Nesta. Tej from Renbee joined us to share insights from the Installer Chatbot project, in collaboration with the A Sustainable Future team (read more about that here: https://lnkd.in/gjuJAy_j) ?? And behind the scenes, we’re continuing to refine our venture design and build processes, as well as our technology platform - so we can move as quickly as possible and hit our very ambitious goal of spinning out 8 impactful, commercially successful businesses by Sep 2026 ?? #venturebuilding #socialinnovation #venturestudio #nesta #startups #entrepreneurship

Over the last few weeks, the Mission Studio Venture Design team have been diving into Problem Discovery: the first phase of our new sprint feeding into Nesta’s A Healthy Life mission. After exploring a diverse set of themes (from 'food as medicine' to sustainable aquaculture) we’ve narrowed our focus down to two problem spaces - and we’d love the help of our network to speak to the experts actively involved in either of these areas: 1?? The GLP-1 Boom GLP-1 medications like Wegovy and Ozempic are reshaping obesity and diabetes care, with 700% growth in the U.S. over four years and a projected market of $322B by 2032. But behind the hype, major challenges remain: ??? Access & Affordability – $10K–$20K per year puts treatment out of reach for many and is unsustainable in the long-term ???Long-Term Viability – Weight regain is common without continued use and lifestyle changes ???Personalisation – Users respond differently to different drugs which requires careful management ???Healthcare Infrastructure – Systems are unprepared for wraparound care needs at this scale ?? Behavioral & Market Shifts – Food consumption is changing, with demand for processed snacks and alcohol declining With over 120 new weight loss drugs in development, innovation is accelerating, but who is solving the second-order effects? 2?? Scaling Healthy Challenger Brands Challenger brands are reshaping the UK’s food and beverage industry, driving 59% of category growth despite making up just 14% of sales. They’re the real innovators in healthier, more sustainable options—but breaking into the market isn’t easy. The Scaling Problem ?? Retail roadblocks -- securing shelf space, high order quantities, and delayed payments ???Manufacturing barriers -- high MOQs, logistics hurdles, and cash flow issues ???Consumer trust -- overcoming skepticism and competing with established brands With HFSS regulations, corporate programs (Sainsbury's,?Tesco,?Co-op), and growing investment, there’s a huge opportunity to enable these brands—not just create them. ?? If you, or anyone in your own network would be able to share some insights into how both of these landscapes are evolving, get in touch with? Christiana(GLP-1s) or?Hattie Gryspeerdt (Challenger brands) – or just let us know in the comments below! #GLP1 #DigitalHealth #Futureofhealthcare #CPG #Foodtech #Foodandbeverage #venturestudio #startups #callforexpertise
