In a study funded by our division, Sreya Bagchi, Edgar Engleman, et al. found that increased tumor acidity suppresses inflammatory responses of tumor associated macrophages through GPR65 (an acid-sensing receptor) to drive obesity associated cancer growth in preclinical models. https://lnkd.in/egwAQfAh

Supporting fundamental cancer research that lays the foundation for advances in cancer prevention, diagnosis & treatment
关于我们
The Division of Cancer Biology (DCB) of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) supports basic research in all areas of cancer biology, from structural insights to mechanisms of metastasis. These fundamental studies provide the building blocks to new cancer prevention and diagnostic strategies, clinical trials, and anti-cancer treatments. Using a reverse translation approach in a study supported by our division, Kang et al. found that disrupting the Asxl1 gene prevents T cell exhaustion and enhances immune checkpoint blockade in preclinical models. “Our discovery of this molecular checkpoint is a critical advancement for the field because it now allows us to further engineer T cells with a durable anti-tumor response,” said @Benjamin Youngblood (co-lead investigator of the study). https://lnkd.in/eMC_icRj

In a study funded by our division, James Ross, Ph.D., Montse Puigdelloses Vallcorba, Gonzalo Gonzalez-Del Pino, Nishant Kumar Soni, Ph.D., Dolores Hambardzumyan, et al. showed that microglia and monocyte-derived macrophages drive progression of pediatric high-grade gliomas and are transcriptionally shaped by histone mutations. Additionally, their mechanistic studies revealed that inhibition of CCR1 and CCR5 (chemokine receptors) reduces macrophage infiltration and extends survival in preclinical models of brain tumors. https://lnkd.in/egQA65sp
