?? It's time to cheer! ?? On November 7, our community came together to celebrate #JenkinsMAC30 at NC State. Part of our celebration—recognizing those who have made a significant impact on the success of the MAC program with their time, talent and resources. This year we honor Jamelia Livingston ('09) and John Broadfoot. Jamelia was awarded the 2024 Distinguished MAC Alumni of the Year for her leadership and contributions to the community. She currently serves as Partner, Americas Professional Practice at EY. John received the 2024 MAC Friend of the Program for his commitment to NC State, Poole College and our students. He's a director at Thomas, Judy & Tucker.

This semester, my ACC 530 (Advanced Income Tax) course ended with a topic on current topics in taxation. I could not think of a better way to lead off these topics then to start with the experts themselves! -Amanda Shumaker (EY) spoke about the complexities of #Multinational #Taxation. She discussed the OECD BEPS program and when we might expect to see the impacts of Pillar I and Pillar II. -Christy Norris, CPA (BDO) spoke about the recent changes to the #Section174 deduction and how her clients (many in the Life Sciences industry) are adjusting to the impacts. -Connor Quillen (KPMG) spoke about how tax professionals are using technology in the workplace and how his skills shifted from Excel at the start of his career to more sophisticated analysis tools like Alteryx -Frances Ellington Gutierrez, DBA, CPA (GHJ) spoke about the complexities companies are facing regarding #SALT taxation. She touched on some of the impacts that taxpayers are still facing from the #TCJA and the continued fallout from the #Wayfair Supreme Court decision. -Victoria Gervasi, CPA (EY) spoke about the 2024 Election and what might be at stake should either party be victorious. While we talked before #Trump won, the insights were broadly applicable and showed how firms and clients had to prepare for any outcome. Grateful for the accounting education I received from the NC State Jenkins MAC Program back in 2008. It prepared me to become a CPA, a trusted advisor in my firm, a leader in my profession, and a contributing member to my community. I also made lifelong friends there. The MAC program is 30 years strong this year and I look forward to the next 30 years!!
