Congratulations to MPI's director and founder, Dr. Shariq Siddiqui for this well-deserved?American Muslim Community Foundation's lifetime achievement award! This award is a testament to Dr. Shariq Siddiqui’s extensive contributions to the field of Muslim philanthropy. His body of work plays a huge role in uplifting the Muslim community and nonprofit sector. Dr. Siddiqui has published numerous peer-reviewed articles and books that not only contribute to and advance academic discourse but also serve as practical guides for philanthropic organizations and nonprofit leaders.?By empowering the Muslim community and nonprofit sector through his publications, research and thought leadership, Dr. Siddiqui is highlighting the important role Muslim nonprofits are playing in addressing?social issues in the US civic society. The word "shukr" means gratitude in Arabic. It is an intrinsic part of the faith of a Muslim and manifests itself in many actions, from prayer to acts of charity. The MPCSCIG (Muslim philanthropy and civil society common interest group) was founded over six years ago by MPI’s director, Dr. Shariq Siddiqui with Dr. Zeeshan Noor, Ph.D. serving as its first chair. Dr. Samir Abu Rumman and?Dr.?Sabith Khan, Ph.D.?Khan were also a part of this initial group. Today, the group has grown to nearly 100 individuals who come together at the yearly ARNOVA conference to share a meal, catch up on each other’s projects and identify opportunities for collaboration. This year, over 60 members of the group attended the annual dinner on November 21st at the iconic Busboys and Poets restaurant in?Washington?DC.

It was an honor to collaborate with Islamic Relief USA in hosting "Zakat in America," a symposium that explored contemporary challenges and opportunities with data and zakat implementation in the United States. Attended widely by luminaries and scholars in fields ranging from Islamic finance to law (fiqh), the symposium invited a spectrum of perceptions, ideas and dialogue. Thank you to Islamic Relief USA for this valuable partnership and for taking a leading role in advancing thought leadership in contemporary Muslim giving. MPI's 7th annual symposium on Muslim Philanthropy and Civil Society took place in Turkey, at Istanbul University recently. Over 25 presentations were made by scholars from all over the world, including by MPI's own team, Dr. Shariq Siddiqui and Abdul Samad. The aim?of the annual symposium is to facilitate a comprehensive exploration of philanthropy's role and impact in addressing societal challenges and driving positive change. It offers?a dynamic platform for scholarly debates on key issues, trends, and innovations in the field of philanthropy. Thank you to all our partners for making this event possible!

Many alums of graduate certificates from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy are recipients of scholarships received due to a collaboration between the Zakat Foundation Institute (ZFI) and the Muslim Philanthropy Initiative. A significant number pursue their Masters and PHD's consequently. These bright and inspiring individuals met with Zakat Foundation Institute's Executive Director, Mr. Rasheed Ahmed during his visit to IU. The students shared their academic goals and aspirations and expressed their gratitude for the support they have received from ZFI. It was a pleasure to host Mr. Rasheed Ahmed and we are grateful to him for visiting us from Chicago!
