Congratulations to this year's Narwhal Winner, DAWn Audio! Diego Pinzon and Mandy Ortiz gave an assured pitch in the final round of the Swimming with Narwhals Pitch Competition at Music Tectonics' 2024 conference. Not only did they convince judges Andrew Kahn (Crush Ventures/CRUSH MUSIC), Rishi Patel (Plus Eight Equity Partners), and Sun Jen Yung (Nfluence Partners), they won popular vote as well. Shout outs to the finalists who put up fierce competition with their strong pitches: Parker Busick (Soloist), Richard Anderson III (Soundspace), and Alex Brees (un:hurd music)!

Thanks for a keynote like no other, Mark Mulligan, Tatiana Cirisano, and MIDiA Research!
We had a BLAST ?? at Music Tectonics in California this year! Our presidential debate-style keynote helped explore the strengths and weaknesses of both LISTEN and PLAY in an engaging new format. From this, it is clear that our honest belief is that the music industry needs something in-between to serve music listening as well as the appetite for lean-in fandom experiences. Some highlights from MIDiA's Mark Mulligan and Tatiana Cirisano were: ?? Attendees are most excited about a future of PLAY ?? Meeting artists who had built their businesses around YouTube and Twitch ?? The panel where BandLab Technologies's Kevin Breuner interviewed Ricky Tinez, a musician recording his process weekly for 177k YouTube subscribers ?? Meeting both old industry hands and the innovators building the future ?? Seeing first hand just how segmented today’s music business is ?? Hearing about innovative artist marketing approaches to cutting through the clutter As much as we loved our debate format, we might wait until we recover from the 2024 election cycle before we try it again! Check out our report "Bifurcation theory | How today’s music business will become two" for more context on the LISTEN versus PLAY debate ?? https://ow.ly/TrV150U06LS

Give it up for Shayli M. Ankenbruck, Music Tectonics' Head of Events!
As I reflect on this past week, I feel incredibly proud of the event that we’ve built at Rock Paper Scissors, Inc. over the last 6 years. When Dmitri Vietze kicked off Music Tectonics in 2019, I came on board just 2 months before the event. Having never been to a conference in my life, I remember arriving in LA for the very first time feeling like Miley Cyrus hopping off the plane at LAX with her dream and cardigan. Through fires, online editions, several venue changes, and countless hours of brainstorming, blueskying, and problem solving, this event has grown into something that feels indescribable to be a part of. I feel grateful for all the opportunities it continues to give me and amazing people it allows me to meet. A huge shout out and thank you to the absolute dream team of 2024 Jenny Blackwell Eleanor Rust Dmitri Vietze Allison Hall, SPHR Robin Lancaster Anna Barnett Christian Harp Jonathan Streetman Zeynep Yasar Jade Prieboy.
