The Montgomery County Career Advising Program (MoCo CAP) is a collaborative effort headed by WorkSource Montgomery, along with partners Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS), Montgomery College, and the Universities at Shady Grove. The goal is to address one requirement related to the College and Career Readiness pillar laid out by the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future. Started in 2023 and launched in schools January 2024, this program works with nearly 90,000 MCPS students in grades 6 through 12 to help enable them to make informed decisions about high school pathways and their postsecondary trajectory.

Time for another MoCo CAP roundup of the amazing work our Career Coaches are doing in Montgomery County Public Schools schools:? ?? John Poole MS hosted a Meet A Pro for approximately 150 scholars with mechanical engineer Dr. Lisa Eng.? ?? Montgomery Village MS celebrated the heart of Black History Month through the lens of RIASEC themes.? ?? North Bethesda MS held Meet A Pro events featuring a makeup artist, hairstylist, and nail technician from Glammed by India, Boss Beauty Services, and YJnailz; ABC 7 news reporter Joy Wang; and entrepreneur Ms. Agayre.? ?? Poolesville HS had vision board workshops with 85 scholars, and a Meet A Pro featuring a neonatologist and medical physicist.? ?? Julius West and Tilden middle schools hosted push-in and whole-group sessions for 7th graders.? ?? Walter Johnson HS’s Student Advisory Council led a "Sip and Share" event with students and teachers. ?? Northwood HS hosted an internship networking event where senior interns shared their experiences. ?? Eastern MS held a Meet A Pro event with DMV's Luxe Mobile Snack & Dessert Cart featuring CEO Kharisma Martinez and a Glam and Careers Rotation Panel. ?? Quince Orchard HS had a sports management Meet A Pro event featuring Senior Vice President of Tandem Sports & Entertainment Ms. Shana Martin and QOHS staffer and former D1 college basketball coach Mr. Chris Campbell, and a separate presentation with Licensed Professional Engineer and certified Project Management Professional Mr. Chris Ackerman. ?? Seneca Valley HS doubled up with Meet A Pro events by hosting an architect from Moseley Architects and a lawyer. ?? Rock Terrace MS’s Career Coach Ms. Rodriguez provided an overview of the program and did a RIASEC activity with teachers. ?? Damascus HS had 170+ students visit Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore. ?? Career Coach Mr. Diaz?connected with hundreds of rising sixth graders at Sargent Shriver ES’s second-ever career fair. ?? Our MoCo CAP Community Coach spoke to many of the 1,000+ MCPS students and families who attended the second annual HBCU Career Fair at The Universities at Shady Grove. ? And many more!? ?? RIASEC Refresher- How do you actually use the RIASEC themes? ??? MoCo CAP Career Coaches, Montgomery County Public Schools teachers, Career Champions, and others within the school system use the RIASEC themes to help students vividly describe their own strengths, interests, and workplace values; identify how they are expanding their skills and knowledge; and describe the various opportunities ahead of them.? Working 1:1 and in small and large groups, Career Coaches use a variety of activities to help students find?work environments and career paths that fit them individually. Coaches also focus on developing skills that will help them while in school and once out in the workforce. Students?get real-life demonstrations of the RIASEC themes in the workplace through Meet A Pro talks and presentations that bring professionals from all industries into the classroom – or virtually through our MoCo CAP YouTube library (https://lnkd.in/eniYtz9z).
