Jonathan Yau, HKS-MBA '25, traveled to Brisbane earlier this month to participate in the Queensland University of Technology (QUT) International Collaboration Sprint alongside three other MIT Sloan School of Management students, as well as students from the National University of Singapore, The University of Auckland, and QUT in Brisbane to focus on exploring emerging climate technologies and climate-focused economic policies. “As a dual degree policy & MBA student from the Pacific who was working on climate issues,” Jonny had a lot to gain from this program, and his time at QUT reminded him that “in a world where we are focused on profit, GDP, and economic growth, we forget that we need to live more sustainably for the planet and its people.” Learn more about Jonny’s experience at the link below, and stay tuned to our channels to hear from the other students who attended this unique international program organized by the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship and QUT Entrepreneurship! https://lnkd.in/gvWBwYSk

Systems thinking for a sustainable future. Sustainability education + research center @ MIT Sloan.
关于我们
Our team is working hard to be a leading voice in sustainable business and policy, with a mission to provide the best education, apply academic rigor to real world problems, and empower leaders everywhere to take action so humans and nature can thrive. Housed at the MIT Sloan School of Management – birthplace of systems thinking, system dynamics, and modeling of complex human + environment interactions – we are deeply committed to advancing systems change for an equitable and sustainable world. We do this through the joint efforts of MIT students, faculty, alumni, researchers, and collaborators in business, government, NGOs, and hybrid organizations. ?? "Hope isn’t na?ve optimism—the belief that some technological breakthrough will save us. It's the belief that what we do matters. That by working together, we can create a better world," - Professor John Sterman.

Executive Director and Co-Founder of Climate Interactive. Creator of #EnROADS simulation. Research Affiliate, MIT Sloan.
I was thrilled to join the Planet Action Conference and TEDxBoston community last week on MIT campus, telling the story of how Climate Interactive and #EnROADS can help us all respond to the recent horror of #HurricaneHelene in my hometown of #Asheville. What an inspired, ambitious, and talented community; I'm impressed and surprised by the power of effective story-telling on tackling the world's biggest challenges. It helps when talented folks like John Werner, Alison Sander, Caty Byerly Rezendes, Davey B, and crew back you up. Such strong synergies as well with the new ambitious climate projects at MIT, The MIT Climate Project and the MIT Climate Policy Center out of Sloan.

As part of our largest-ever cohort of interns, William Barth spent his summer with Third Nature Investments as an MBA Intern, where he led the due diligence workstream and researched potential investments, focusing on startups and fund managers in the #earthsystems space. In his role, he learned how to evaluate a startup in a kickoff call and conduct further diligence on the health of the business and the extent of its impact. Hear from Will in the clip below on why he enjoyed learning about the ocean economy, and how it was relevant to his work this summer. Congrats on a fulfilling summer, Will!

Last month, we welcomed Emily Urban Cordeiro, PhD, from FoodChain ID to campus for an informative discussion as part of our Sustainability Lunch Series. In this discussion, Emily highlighted strategies for fostering #sustainable agricultural practices that contribute to #climatesolutions, the challenges of quantifying sustainability outcomes in agriculture, the need for streamlined data collection and management, and more. Listen to the clip below to learn more about current trends in #carbonoffsetting as it pertains to agriculture systems and FoodChain ID’s role in this space, and visit the link below to view the full session. https://lnkd.in/g_UZFfKN

A new report shows American businesses and households invested over $242 billion in the purchase and installation of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs), heat pumps, and distributed renewable generation, fuel cells, and storage systems. As the United States approaches the two-year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), this report from our colleagues at MIT - Center for Energy and Environmental Policy Research and Rhodium Group provides a comprehensive analysis of actual investments in clean technologies and infrastructure since its enactment.

Four MIT students were selected to participate in the QUT (Queensland University of Technology) International Collaboration Sprint this year, where they joined students from the National University of Singapore, The University of Auckland, and QUT in Brisbane to focus on exploring emerging climate technologies and climate-focused economic policies. One of the MIT Sloan School of Management students that attended, Bria Hardin-Boyer, shared what made the experience truly exceptional was the “engagement with the greater Brisbane community, including the First Nations community.” Bria found immense value in deepening her understanding of the “land's rich cultural heritage and the importance of incorporating Indigenous perspectives in our discussions on sustainability.” Learn more about Bria’s experience at the link below, and stay tuned to our channels to hear from the other students who attended this unique international program organized by the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship and QUT Entrepreneurship!? https://lnkd.in/gvWBwYSk

We’re reflecting on our collaboration with Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth (CSP) North America and our shared commitment of hosting transformational learning experiences that help people create lives of purpose. At the new “Accelerate Your Impact” program at MIT, we pioneered a new approach to deploying multicapital for impact, alongside FBN (Family Business Network), Katapult Foundation, and Meridian Institute. Our very own Jason Jay and MIT Media Lab’s Joost Bonsen hosted a tour of campus followed by inspirational sessions with impactful groups like Roxbury Innovation Center, the Boston Impact Initiative, and the Black Economic Council of Massachusetts, Inc. Through our collaboration with CSP, Jason also traveled to the Center for Sustainable Finance and Private Wealth in Zurich to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of Impact Investing for the Next Generation (IING), a program where he and Falko Paetzold have woven together their wisdom to unlock how the next generation can engage their communities on their impact journeys. At the 10th anniversary of IING, we celebrated our community including Temple Fennell, who have helped bring this field together. Marietta Chatzinota, James Gifford
