The first of its kind Military Leaders Guide equips leaders at all levels with the tools and knowledge needed to support service members during their transition process. This resource ensures accurate, up-to-date information, explains the importance of starting the TAP as soon as possible, but no later than 365 days before separation, and outlines how leaders can positively influence successful outcomes. Last week MCTO’s Yashika Neaves, Ph.D.,?Chief of Strategic Plan & Initiatives, joined representatives from the DoD/VA Collaboration Office, Defense-State Liaison Office, and Credentialing in a wide-ranging panel discussion during the National Association of State Directors of Veterans Affairs (NASDVA) DoD Day at the Pentagon. This event was held in conjunction with the NASDVA 2025 Midwinter Conference. Conversation with State Directors of Veterans Affairs across 54 U.S. States and Territories included common challenges, best practices, and strategies to seamlessly connect with transitioning service members. ? Dr. Neaves shared insights on becoming a “state of choice,” while highlighting the unique skillsets Veterans bring to the local workforce, discussing leveraging state-level initiatives – even OCONUS, to support active and Reserve Component warfighters.? ? Mr. Darin Selnick, Performing the Duties of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness?participated with opening remarks. The event concluded with a Transition Executive Committee (TEC) panel discussion with Mr. Alex Baird,?Defense Support Services Center Director; Ms. Melissa Cohen, SES,?VA OTED Executive Director; and Ms. Margarita Devlin, MA, CRC, ?DOLVETS Deputy Assistant Secretary of Operations and Management.
