Do you ever have the urge to turn back the clock to better days? I'm thinking of last Wednesday's Mid-Atlantic MarCom Summit at Arlington's Convene Conference Center. Great day! Local marketing professionals engaged in informative presentations, serious networking and a high-volume happy hour. This image shows me with Jennifer Mulchandani, founder of Arlington Strategy, and Adobe's Steve Lewis, whose presentation unpacked AI's impact on marketing. #MarComSummitDC

Broadcast #mediarelations was one of the topics thoroughly covered at #MarComSummitDC by D S Simon Media
Mid-Atlantic MarCom Summit in DC was fantastic! The D S Simon Media team was thrilled to share insights into today’s broadcast media landscape and the vital role satellite media tours (SMTs) play in helping brands tell their stories directly to target local markets. A big thank you to everyone who visited our booth and joined our CEO, Doug Simon, for his panel on "Mastering Broadcast Media Relations: Navigating Television and Radio.” Here are a few key takeaways from the session: ??SMTs are thriving – Demand from local TV news stations is higher than ever. In fact, 92% of TV news producers we surveyed are open to interviewing brand spokespeople. ??78% of producers prefer an in-house spokesperson, and we saw a 12% increase in bookings when an in-house spokesperson was used. ??SMTs provide an efficient way to feature multiple spokespeople and maximize story impact. #MarComSummit #BroadcastMedia #SMTs #DSSimonMedia #localTV

VP, Head of Corporate Communications, Nestlé North America | Leader of PRWeek’s Outstanding In-House Team Award Winner 2023 | PRWeek 40 Under 40
It was a pleasure to join Kathy Baird, Lydia Sermons (She/Her/Hers), and Scott Stanzel for this week’s CCO roundtable on emerging trends in communications at the Mid-Atlantic MarCom Summit. Here are the top themes from our conversation, and I’d argue we should consider them three revolutions underway in our industry today: ?? The rise of internal communications - People and culture drive business growth, period. COVID shined a spotlight on the importance of strong internal comms, but smart businesses know that strategic communications is an integral part of the human capital strategy. Especially in the current business, cultural, and macroeconomic environment, comms leaders must value their relationship with HR just as highly as they do with Marketing. ?? The AI revolution - We need to look at AI as additive and complementary to our work, not as competition. Comms leaders should encourage their teams to embrace a process to continuously 1) experiment with these technologies, 2) apply what they learned to their work, 3) build new tools that help them add value, and 4) repeat. ?? The platform explosion - The proliferation of media platforms and channels has its challenges, but in reality it’s a massive opportunity for communicators to reach their audiences where they are. Use the evolving media ecosystem (publishers' newsletters, podcasts, TikTok, etc.) to make a bigger impact. Customize your content to these channels to help reporters tell better stories and to help you make deeper connections with your audience. Thank you to Sean O'Leary for moderating and to Robert Udowitz and his team for the great event!?
