We're excited to share that Phase 1 of the Blueprint Schools Program was honored with a National Award of Merit for Educational Facilities by the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA). Each year, DBIA recognizes projects that illustrate the critical role design-build played in shaping the success of the project. Delivered via a 30-year, first-of-its-kind innovative public-private partnership model, the team leveraged design-build best practices to deliver six schools for Prince George's County Public Schools. The project team achieved economies of scale by developing three prototype school designs with common elements and an eye towards minimized maintenance and lifecycle interventions. Gilbane was honored to receive the Community Enrichment Award of Excellence last night for Alexandria City Public Schools' Alexandria City High School at Minnie Howard. The ambitious 345,975 square-foot?LEED Gold and Net-Zero Ready satellite campus?serves over 1,600 students. The school features a cutting-edge aquatics center managed by the City of Alexandria RPCA, serving both students and the wider Alexandria community, as well as several administrative spaces for Alexandria City resources. This innovative approach to shared resources not only maximizes facility utilization but also fosters community engagement, promotes public health, and demonstrates a commitment to sustainability. Last week, Gilbane and our project partners were honored with the General Building Contractors Association (GBCA) Best Masonry Construction Project Award for the Drexel University Main, Randell, and Curtis Fa?ade! Gilbane provided early preconstruction services, guiding logistics, scheduling, and cost estimating. The project, conducted outside three active campus buildings, required meticulous planning to ensure safety and minimal disruption to the University's ongoing operations. This included establishing clear access for Drexel employees, students, and the public throughout construction. Gilbane also maintained weathertight conditions by limiting the demolition of existing roofing, skylights, and replacement of windows to what could be reroofed or replaced in the same day. Gilbane is excited to announce the completion of the Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center Emergency Department Behavioral Health Unit. The previous 6-bed Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) in the emergency department (ED) could not accommodate the volume of behavioral health patients. To address this need, the decommissioned Inpatient Behavioral Health Unit, located on the first floor of the 1N building, was repurposed and expanded to 7,000 SF, into a dedicated 24-bed ED BHU/Crisis Stabilization Unit to care for expanded volume of behavioral health patients admitted to the ED. The BHU/Crisis Stabilization Unit opens December 2, 2024. ? At yesterday's Grand Opening event, Ryan Brown, Vice President of Operations spoke highly of Gilbane’s project team stating, “The chemistry with the team in the interview was real and we saw it during the whole project. Gilbane Building Company has officially completed The Kahlert Foundation Complex at Howard Community College (HCC), the school's largest campus project to date. This state-of-the-art, 163,000 SF facility seamlessly integrates mathematics and athletics, featuring modern classrooms, computer labs, a STEM makerspace, and specialized athletic training spaces. At the grand opening on November 1, HCC President Dr. Daria Willis and other dignitaries celebrated the building's role in supporting the college’s growing enrollment and diverse programmatic needs. We're proud to contribute to HCC's mission and look forward to breaking ground on the Workforce Development and Trades Center in 2025.
