How a 160-Year-Old Startup Uses AI In the most recent episode of the "Me, Myself, and AI" podcast by MIT Sloan Management Review, I had an engaging dialogue with Sam Ransbotham and Shervin Khodabandeh about the use of AI within The HEINEKEN Company. One of the first questions I was asked was to describe HEINEKEN. My response? We are a “160-year-old startup.” Why? Despite our long history, we operate with a startup mentality—entrepreneurial, agile, and adaptable. These qualities are essential in today’s volatile world! We explored many aspects of AI and its role at HEINEKEN. Here are some highlights: ?? The use of "Analytical AI" vs. GenAI: While 90% of the conversation often revolves around GenAI, we derive over 90% of our value from predictive models used for revenue management, optimizing promotions, and sales execution. ?? General Managers now talk about data quality and the importance of unique, competitive data. That’s a massive win for our organization! ?? The need for high-quality data versus the often underestimated focus on adoption and behavior change. ?? One key takeaway from our AI journey is the value of learning from mistakes and fostering a culture of experimentation. That’s why we introduced our "F*-up Award" to celebrate risk-taking and learning from failures. I truly believe innovation isn’t just about technology; it’s about transforming the way we think and work. Chief Executive Officer, Special Olympics International

"Me, Myself, and AI" podcast recently asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up, I didn't miss a beat: a teacher. Today, on International Day of Persons with Disabilities, I am reflecting on what it means to be a teacher during a period of unprecedented technological change. Teachers across the country – and around the world – are striving to understand how AI can make their classrooms more inclusive by responsibly embracing these tools. However, this is a massive challenge for teachers who are already burning the candle at both ends. At Special Olympics, we are exploring how AI can support our athletes both on the playing field and in the classroom. I had the privilege of joining MIT Sloan School of Management to discuss how AI can be a powerful tool for promoting inclusion. This conversation is particularly significant as it coincides with #IDPWD, highlighting the importance of integrating accessibility and inclusion into AI development from the outset. I invite tech companies and innovators to join us in this mission and give people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) a seat at the table. We must build AI tools that amplify the voices of people with IDD and foster a more inclusive society. Thank you to Sam Ransbotham and Shervin Khodabandeh for hosting this insightful conversation and providing a platform to share our vision. Tune in to the podcast to learn more about our approach and how you can get involved in making AI inclusive for all. https://lnkd.in/enys-BEZ #AIForGood #SpecialOlympics

Rebecca Finlay, CEO of Partnership on AI (PAI), believes that #artificialintelligence poses risks — and that organizations should learn from one another and help others avoid the same hazards by disclosing the mistakes they’ve made in implementing the technology. In this episode of the?Me, Myself, and AI?podcast, Rebecca discusses the nonprofit’s work supporting the responsible use of AI, including how it’s incorporating global perspectives into its #AI #governance efforts. She also addresses the complexities of integrating AI into the workforce and the misleading narrative around the inevitability of AI taking over humans’ jobs. She advocates for a proactive approach to adopting the technology instead, where organizations, policy makers, and workers collaborate to that ensure AI enhances jobs rather than eliminating them. Do you agree or disagree that there is currently false information about AI and its ability to replace human work? Tell us why you agree or disagree.
