This Tuesday, we hosted our first Pitch Night of the year, featuring innovative ideas, great discussions, and hardworking founders from the Omaha area! Students had the opportunity to engage with local entrepreneurs, gaining hands-on experience in evaluating investment opportunities and learning more about the venture capital process. Last weekend, Maverick Venture Fund sent a team to compete in our first-ever competition at the Cornhusker Venture Capital Competition, hosted by the Husker Venture Fund. CVCC provided teams from across the country with the opportunity to take on the role of a VC firm, analyzing startups, conducting due diligence, and presenting investment decisions to a panel of judges. Congratulations to Kirk Bramwell, Carson Chochon, Brayden Hicks, and Isaiah Jacobsen for securing 3rd place. The team brought a mix of experience and first-time exposure to venture capital, applying their skills throughout the competition. Teams engaged with three Nebraska startups OMEDUS, FinDaily, and Pairr who pitched their businesses, participated in founder interviews, and gave teams firsthand exposure to evaluating real startups We appreciate the guidance of our advisors, Martha Fister and Michael Becker, as well as the support from Michael Staffenbeal. A special thank you to the Husker Venture Fund for organizing an excellent event, the judges for their time and feedback, and the participating startups. Our long-awaited 2024 recap has now arrived... ?? 2024 was another remarkable year for our group. We funded 22 companies, with 11 new deals and 11 follow-on deals. As always, we emphasize supporting our Nebraska community, as shown by 19 of the 22 companies funded last year being based in Nebraska. We are also proud to share that the Angel Capital Association has named us one of the most active angel capital groups for the third year in a row! To top it all off, we saw three exits from our portfolio this year from Attune Medical, Nobl, and Retail Aware! This incredible year wouldn't have been possible without our outstanding members and their support of local startups. A big shoutout goes to all the spectacular founders here in the state.
