Here we are again at the end of another semester at The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business. I swear the students keep getting younger (and maybe even a bit smarter)!
This semester in Marketing Projects, we had the honor of supporting Jeremy Hollon at Community Refugee & Immigration Services. CRIS supports New Americans as they begin their journey here in Central Ohio. Community Connectors, a mentorship program at CRIS, recruits OSU students as mentors for some of the org's younger clients. Our class was tasked with making the OSU/Community Connectors connection stronger and securing more mentors for the campus organization, CCOSU.
The class spent all semester uncovering and discovering insights about the situation and then developing strategies and tactics to take advantage of these new opportunities. Last week, all of the teams presented their work to Jeremy. They were poised and impressive as they delivered their findings.
Every client determines a winner at the end of the semester. It's a big deal to win this competition as it's one of the first real life forays into the world of clients and careers. This year, Jeremy awarded Team 1 the first place title and Team 2 won the best team presentation award from me. All the teams rocked it and made me (and their parents) proud. :)
Every semester, many teams of OSU marketing students are unleashed to help solve real-world problems across Columbus. In my class alone, we've supported Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, PIADA ITALIAN STREET FOOD, Tigertree, Circular Thrift and now CRIS. Adding the other sections of the class across the years, this single OSU course has likely supported a 100+ companies!
I'm particularly proud of this one, however, as this work is being immediately applied to several new roles at CRIS. In the next year or two, we expect to see more attention and involvement with the mentorship program which should lead to more empathy and understanding all around. ??
Congrats teams and brand-new graduates!
