READ THE MAPS 2023 ANNUAL REPORT A message from MAPS CEO, Travis H.ege, and Chair of the MAPS Board of Directors, Danie du Plessis Dear Colleagues, For many of us, 2023 marked the true emergence from the pandemic, highlighted by the energy of more than 1,100 Medical Affairs professionals coming together in Nashville for the MAPS 2023 Global Annual Meeting and nearly 400 in Lisbon for our 2023 EMEA meeting. How wonderful it was to connect and reconnect with peers, colleagues, and friends! The year also underlined the ways in which the Health Sciences industry has adapted to disruption. We now live in a world of virtual interactions, in which the pace of change is accelerated by generative artificial intelligence, the availability of big data, and increased expectations for an immediate flow of accurate and trustworthy information from Health Sciences companies to an ever-expanding list of stakeholders across health-care, academia, government, and society as a whole. During this time, MAPS has continued to truly represent the voice of Medical Affairs, providing expert guidance and perspective to lead the profession. In the year 2023, MAPS presented a number of advancements and accomplishments. Our Executive Consortium came together to crystallize a 2030 vision for the function. In the culmination of a years-long effort, we published the Medical Affairs Competency Framework (along with reorganizing the structure of MAPS volunteer committees around this framework), which will ensure, that future MAPS training resources and certificate tracks comprehensively address the breadth of skills needed for a successful career. More than 80 global Medical Affairs leaders came together to write the first-ever Medical Affairs textbook. In addition, we continue to grow in both membership and engagement, with increasing opportunities for individuals, teams, departments, and companies to connect virtually and in person, through the expansion of programs including our MAPS Chapters, Mentorship Program, MasterClasses, and more. As the Medical Affairs profession accelerates into strategic impact, MAPS is accelerating along with it—and 2024 shows no signs of slowing. We are already looking forward to our 2025 Americas and EMEA meetings. Our Domain Teams, Focus Area Working Groups, and Special Interest Groups, in collaboration with our Program Development Committee, are poised to launch into the creation of Competency Framework training resources. And expansion of our Partner Circle and Industry Partnership Programs continue to fuel the growth of the organization. WE ARE GRATEFUL for your continued support of the MAPS organization and your work to advance the Medical Affairs profession.
