Proud to share exciting publication news from 2022 Management PhD Grad Ouafaa Hmaddi and current Lundquist professors Lauren Lanahan and Alex Murray
Thrilled to share that our paper with Lauren Lanahan and Alex Murray "Tracing entrepreneurial spillovers" was just published in Research Policy! This one is really special to me - it started as a summer project in my second year of PhD and finally made it through review during my second year as faculty. Using the U.S. State Small Business Credit Initiative (#SSBCI) program, we found that for every $1 invested through large institutional funding, $0.50 is generated approximately in spillovers measured through additional entrepreneurial investment in the local ecosystem through crowdfunding. Our analysis also revealed that these spillovers were more pronounced when funds were distributed across a broader number of small businesses (scope), rather than concentrated in fewer, larger investments (scale). Through this research, we highlight how government programs can catalyze broader entrepreneurial activity in ways that extend well beyond their direct beneficiaries. By tracing both successful and failed entrepreneurial attempts, we provide a more complete picture of how institutional investments shape local entrepreneurial ecosystems. Check out new research from Lundquist alum Nathan Warren (MKTG PhD '21) to be published in the January 2025 issue of Journal of Business Research: https://lnkd.in/gQvrMATT
New research: New technologies mean that customers don't always have privacy while selecting tip amounts. Sara Hanson and I find that customers don't always tip more when they feel watched. However, they are far less likely to recommend or return to the business. When customers feel watched, they feel less generous, but more pressure to tip. Managerial takeaway: make sure customers feel they have privacy while tipping. Press release & publication linked below.
