Organized by our Health GIS Club, the event brought together students and experts to explore how GIS technology is revolutionizing data analysis and decision-making. From presentations like "GIS and Public Health Education" to "USA Cancer Trials and Clinical Trial Prototype Applications," students explored how mapping technology is transforming our understanding of the world. And, of course, no event is complete without delicious food to fuel our learning! The day was a celebration of learning, innovation, and collaboration, complete with engaging discussions and hands-on insights into the transformative power of GIS in shaping healthier communities. ?? Today, our campus community gathered for a flag-raising ceremony hosted by the Military and Veterans Club. As the flag rose against the morning sky, we reflected on the sacrifices made by those who have served to protect our freedoms and safety. Dr. Nathan Wall from the School of Medicine spoke movingly, reminding us of the enduring legacy of courage and dedication embodied by our veterans. American Public Health Association 2024 convention With some 12,000 attendees the #APHA2024 convention opened with a bang on Oct 27, 2024! But the largest gathering of public health professionals in the nation started our annual meeting with a fitting tribute to the indigenous people of Minnesota — who are by all definition the true Owner of the land! The dignified music and prayer they shared with us on the grand stage is a solemn reminder that the rest of us are immigrants, migrants and occupants to the great land we called United States of America, at various point in the history. They also reminded us the greatness of American we know today was, is and will always be about diversity, equity, inclusion. I’m thrilled and grateful to be at this conference, meeting old friends and making new ones, all with the shared mission of bringing health, justice and equity to our community through public health.
