LISC Detroit is honored to partner with Federal Home Loan Bank of Indianapolis (FHLBI) & Detroit Future City to implement a community-driven approach to preserve generational wealth for Detroiters.
??NEW PROGRAM ALERT ?? In partnership with LISC Detroit and building off Detroit Future City’s groundbreaking 2024 report, we are excited to announce a new program: The Detroit Heirs’ Property Program. Detroit Future City’s report found more than 5,500 existing heirs' properties - defined as land or property passed down among family members without a formal will or estate plan - in the city of Detroit. To address this issue, the new Detroit Heirs’ Property Program, administered by LISC Detroit, will assist in resolving and preventing heirs' property issues through a holistic approach by focusing on system and policy change, providing outreach and legal services on a neighborhood level, and promoting education and awareness that will prevent future issues. Alongside the program, the Bank is also launching a small advisory committee of local financial institutions to understand the heirs' property-related challenges facing Detroiters and to think creatively on how to support the preservation of homeownership.
