Office politics gets a bad rap, but it's not always negative, according to talent acquisition specialist Tanya Cap. "Building relationships, influencing decisions, and advocating for yourself are all forms of workplace politics that can be used ethically to create opportunities and drive positive change," she writes on LinkedIn. Do you agree? Share your thoughts in the comments below.

Office Politics: A question I get spoken to about frequently. Office politics exists in every workplace. Whether we like it or not, power dynamics, alliances, and unspoken rules shape decision-making and career growth. But here’s the real question: Are office politics always negative? ? The Good: Building relationships, influencing decisions, and advocating for yourself are all forms of workplace politics that can be used ethically to create opportunities and drive positive change. ? The Bad: Favoritism, backstabbing, and hidden agendas can create a toxic culture where success is determined by who you know, not what you bring to the table. So how do we navigate this reality? Here’s my take: 1?? Stay authentic—don't compromise your integrity to "play the game." 2?? Build strategic relationships, not just for gain but for genuine collaboration. 3?? Focus on your work ethic and contributions—results speak louder than politics. 4?? Stay aware, but don’t get consumed—choose where you invest your energy. I’d love to hear your thoughts. Have you experienced office politics? #OfficePolitics #CareerGrowth #WorkplaceCulture

Conferences should be dog-friendly, argues dog-lover and entrepreneur Paloma Newton. She says allowing dogs at industry gatherings would help make the conference feel more organic. "How many times have you been awkwardly standing around, trying to figure out how to introduce yourself to someone at a conference? The answer is dogs! But beyond being the world’s best icebreaker, dogs have a proven impact on wellbeing," Newton argues. Would you bring your furry friend to a conference? Would you attend a conference that permitted pets? Share your thoughts below.

2025 conference season has kicked off (aka, the year), and here’s the hill I’m willing to die on: Dogs should be allowed at conferences. HEAR ME OUT. What better way to strike up a conversation than with a dog?? How many times have you been awkwardly standing around, trying to figure out how to introduce yourself to someone at a conference???How many times have you just been waiting for the right moment to chat with someone? The answer: dogs.? Picture this: you walk up to someone, and they have a really cute dog. Queue: “Oh wow, who is this?” Boom. Connection made. No fancy apps just quality good boys and girls.? But beyond being the world’s best icebreaker, dogs have a proven impact on well-being. A recent study on pet-friendly workplaces found that having dogs around boosts focus, collaboration, and overall morale. ?? So as we move through conference season, fresh off Southstart, next up Sunrise and SXSW. I have one question: why are we leaving our four-legged friends at home?? Science says spending time with dogs improves brain function. All that effort put into programming these events… now imagine it with a squad of golden retrievers at your feet. Sounds like a productivity hack to me.? If it’s just a matter of getting sign-off from the gatekeepers, ICC, Carriageworks, or whoever sets the rules? let me know, and I’ll start those conversations.? Let’s make conferences organic again. Let’s make them dog-friendly. Who’s in? ????

Federal elections should move to a four-year cycle, says The Hon. Victor Dominello, Future Government Institute CEO. He writes on LinkedIn that, "Every state and territory in Australia has already adopted four-year terms. Globally, we're behind one of only eight countries (out of 186 with active legislatures) still holding elections every three years or less." Do you agree? Check out Dominello's post and share your take in the comments.

Here's something both Mr Albanese and Mr Dutton agree on: Australia’s federal election cycle needs fixing: https://lnkd.in/gSfCZTNm Every state and territory in Australia?? has already adopted four-year terms. Globally, we're behind one of only eight countries (out of 186 with active legislatures) still holding elections every three years or less ??♂? This outdated cycle costs Australia dearly. Govts slow down for months leading up to an election, then spend months afterwards getting back into gear. The Mandala report# calculates that this instability is costing our country at least $60 billion ????♂? Yet despite the clear case for change, shifting voters remains tough. In fact, when Australians were asked about extending terms to four years in the 1988 referendum, only a third voted yes - and no state supported it. But that was nearly four decades ago ?? ie pre internet - when the world moved ALOT slower. Surely it’s time we reconsidered. Imagine the certainty of a stable, predictable four-year cycle: ?? 2025: Federal & Local Government elections ?? 2027: State and Territory elections (to be staggered and conducted in Feb and March) Four-year fixed terms are simple, sensible, and clearly in Australia's national interest. If political opponents like Albanese and Dutton can agree on this, maybe it’s time voters did too ?? #https://lnkd.in/gXFyyHQM

The #1 job interview mistake smart people like you make???? Over-preparing! It can be just as bad as under-preparing... I see it all the time. High-achieving professionals rehearsing answers like they’re studying for an exam. But when they get into the interview? ? They sound robotic. Stiff. Like they’re reading a script in their head. ? And when a question is asked that wasn't rehearsed, they freeze! So instead of memorising answers, try this: ? Know your key stories (challenges you’ve solved, results you’ve achieved - get your examples from your CV achievements) ? Have examples ready to go about all the skills required for the job (hint: find these in the job selection criteria). ? Practice your examples out loud, but not word-for-word. Let your natural voice come through. Confidence doesn’t come from over-rehearsing. It comes from knowing your value and being able to talk about it with ease. Need help with job interviews? I can help!?
