Giving Back to the Community The Washington County Chamber of Commerce LGBTQ+ Business Advisory Council members gave of their time earlier this week to prepare and serve a meal for youth supported by HomePlate Youth Services, an organization dedicated to addressing youth homelessness. For many of these young people, the meals provided by HomePlate are their only access to a hot, nutritious meal. By giving their time and effort, Council members helped create a welcoming environment and supported HomePlate’s vision of communities where homelessness is a short-term circumstance, not a long-term or chronic condition.

Today is International Pronouns Day, a time to honor and respect everyone's pronouns and intersecting identities. Using the correct pronouns is not just about language; it's about recognizing and respecting people for who they are. Whether someone uses he/him, she/her, they/them, or no pronouns at all, we should create environments where everyone feels comfortable sharing and using their pronouns.

Ancora Wellness, founded in 2016 by Kara Kazemba, LCSW, has grown into a holistic wellness clinic offering counseling, naturopathic care, nutrition, and reiki. Kara Kazemba, LCSW, also serves as Vice Chair of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce LGBTQ+ Business Advisory Council. This new space, known as The Ancora Building, represents a beautiful transformation made possible through the City of Hillsboro’s Storefront Improvement Grant and the vision of Steve Helms with SH Creations. Through the ups and downs, the history-making victories and the challenges that tested our resolve, our collective community has become stronger, showing that we are an unstoppable force. This month, we honor the trailblazers, activists, leaders, and everyday heroes who have paved the way for LGBTQ+ rights and equality. Individually and as a collective community, we can break down barriers, bring everyone along, and illuminate the way forward where workplaces—and the world—are rich in inclusion and belonging, and innovation and opportunity are unlocked, for LGBTQ+ people and for all. #LGBTQHistoryMonth
