Tim’s miraculous story of survival was made possible by the lifesaving decision he and his wife made to get to the emergency room at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Carbon, which enacted the chain of survival involving our Medevac team, Shailendra Singh, MD, MD, teams of colleagues at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest, our Patient Blood Management Program, and our Cardiac Rehabilitation- Carbon team. We are thankful for our colleagues across the network that collaborate with the Heart and Vascular Institute to save lives. Meet Jeremy Haas, a 49-year-old Army veteran from Berks County, whose heart journey has been nothing short of miraculous. When his life hung in the balance, our team stepped in, giving him a second chance at life with a lifesaving left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Jeremy suffered from advanced heart failure and needed expert care. He received an Abiomed Impella heart pump designed for more extended use, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), and had a right ventricle assist device (RVAD) implanted to help the right side of his heart function better and rest and heal. Once he was stable enough, he received an LVAD. Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Timothy Misselbeck, MD shared, “It was sort of miraculous, because he was so sick. To have needed both the RVAD and LVAD was a marker of just how sick Jeremy was. It’s very unusual to need both.” Now on a heart transplant list, Jeremy’s faith, strength, and Lehigh Valley Heart and Vascular Institute's expertise and compassion have helped him fight through some of the toughest challenges. #LVAD #RVAD #heartfailure #cardiology #cardiothoracicsurgery #heartrecovery
