A comprehensive survey from Thomson Reuters has uncovered significant challenges facing in-house legal departments, with mounting financial pressures driving strategic transformations across corporate legal teams. The 2024 State of the Corporate Law Department report indicates that approximately 69% of in-house legal professionals are experiencing substantial budgetary constraints imposed by business leadership. Simultaneously, 72% of these departments are actively seeking methods to enhance operational efficiency. Technological innovation emerges as a potential solution, with 76% of respondents believing artificial intelligence could be instrumental in achieving productivity goals. In response to financial pressures, 68% of legal teams are considering bringing more work in-house, while 48% are exploring outsourcing to more cost-effective legal providers. DLA Piper acted as the legal advisor to the pool of banks involved in structuring and organizing the German law-regulated “Schuldschein sustainability-linked” loans, for a total amount of 200 million euros successfully placed by Maire in July 2024. The bank pool assisted by Dla Piper was composed of Commerzbank AG, as initial underwriter, arranger, and paying agent, Crédit Agricole CIB and Intesa Sanpaolo (Imi Cib Division), as arrangers, Credit Agricole Cib also as sustainability coordinator, and MAIRE as the beneficiary. The law firm acted with a multi-jurisdictional team, coordinated by partners Giovanni L. Ragnoni Bosco Lucarelli and Luciano Morello, composed of lawyers Gianfranco Giorgio and Angela Angiò for Italian law assistance; partner Wolfram Distler (PICTURED), assisted by counsel Tobias Daubert and transaction specialist Arne Klingelh?fer, provided assistance for German law aspects. Private equity firms VR Equitypartner and SüdBG have jointly acquired a majority stake in DEKOM AG, a leading international IT provider specializing in customized audiovisual conference and collaboration solutions. DEKOM AG CEO Simon H?rke will continue to lead the company after the transaction and, together with several managers of the foreign entities, will take a significant stake as part of the transaction. Based in Hamburg, DEKOM is an international AV integrator with over 25 years of experience, over 200 employees, more than 6,000 customers and locations in Europe – including Germany, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland – as well as the United States. Baker McKenzie has advised Chicago-based Berlin Packaging, a portfolio company of Oak Hill Capital Partners and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board, on its acquisition of Rixius AG, a German supplier specialized in rigid packaging for the industrial end market.
