We are excited to share that FIU’s Cold Spray and Rapid Deposition (ColRAD) Lab just welcomed a brand-new Meltio M600 Blue Laser DED metal 3D printer! As the second university in the US to receive this machine, this addition is a major step forward in our advanced manufacturing capabilities, allowing us to push the boundaries of research and innovation. We started printing some parts with stainless steel, as seen in the pictures, with our team (Tyler Dolmetsch, Sohail M.A.K. Mohammed, Anthony Gonzalez, Arvind Agarwal and aleksander aleman) Here’s what makes this system so special: ??Blue laser technology delivers improved energy absorption in many metals and alloys like copper, titanium, and aluminum vs. traditional red lasers 4?? Multi-material capabilities enabling functionally graded components and alloying ?? Large build volume enables both research and production level scalability We want to hear from you! What metals or parts would you like to see us print with this new machine? Drop your ideas in the comments below! #AdditiveManufacturing #3DPrinting #Innovation #research

Today is National 3D Printing Day! I salute all our colleagues in the U.S. and around the globe who are driving innovation in additive manufacturing (AM) and 3D printing. In just a few short decades, AM has transformed how we design, build, and test hardware for space exploration and other industries. I’m excited about the industry’s continued growth, future collaborations, and the developments that will further advance these technologies. Here are a few AM resources our team has developed over the years: https://lnkd.in/eQGTJgVY https://lnkd.in/gpXG_wDt https://lnkd.in/gNVHBqSF Hundreds of other AM-related publications and presentations can be found here: https://ntrs.nasa.gov/ #3DPrinting #AdditiveManufacturing #Additive #Aerospace #Rockets #Space #NASA #technology #innovation NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration
