Recently, Hale Library hosted Kansas State University College of Education for the university’s largest hands-on VR workshop to date. Led by Graduate Teaching Assistant and Doctoral Candidate Nooshin Darvishinia, future educators explored Reading World VR, an interactive reading comprehension tool by Skill Prepare. Everything ran flawlessly; despite earlier headset complications, no technical issues occurred and the students were fully immersed in both the technology and the lesson. It wasn’t just the students who were engaged. Dean Debbie Mercer (College of Education) and Dean Laurel Littrell (Libraries) also stopped by to participate. Special thanks to them, their communications teams, Library IT, the Sunderland Foundation Innovation Lab staff, and Skill Prepare for supporting Nooshin, her students, and for ensuring the success of this event! In the College of Education, we support our doctoral students through their dissertation. With support from a K-State College of Education Innovation Grant, Dr. Barefield is piloting a virtual Dissertation Studio. This space brings together 25 doctoral students from across the College of Education, engaging them in design-based activities to enhance creativity in dissertation planning and writing. We look forward to hearing how this innovative approach supports our participating doctoral students.?

As an experienced educator in K-State’s College of Education, Kaylee Myers prepares future teachers to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of K-12 education. She encourages adaptability and creativity while reinforcing the value of traditional teaching methods. Her Core Teaching students put these principles into action through hands-on learning, working together in small teams within the Innovation Lab’s technology-rich spaces to design engaging lesson plans. Guided by scavenger hunts and discussions, they explore cutting-edge technologies and resources, developing skills and knowledge they can one day adapt and apply in their own classrooms. The Innovation Lab team appreciates Kaylee Myers and her students for their enthusiasm, dedication, and commitment to shaping the next generation of learners. We look forward to continued collaboration as these future teachers bring their creativity and expertise into classrooms across Kansas!
