During the 2025 Kansas Stockmen’s Dinner, the K-State College of Agriculture proudly awarded Eldon Gideon with the Medal of Excellence for his outstanding service, leadership and philanthropy. With over 75 years of dedication to agriculture, Eldon has impacted K-State and Kansas’s agricultural community. From his early days in 4-H and FFA to his contributions as a livestock producer, educator and community leader, Eldon has worked closely with K-State faculty and participated in numerous Extension programs. As a leader in the Kansas Livestock Association and American Hereford Association, Eldon helped shape agricultural education and practices in the state. His commitment to supporting youth and preserving Kansas’s agrarian heritage continues to inspire future generations. Congratulations to Eldon on receiving the Medal of Excellence. The David Mugler Teaching Award recognized Dr. Mugler's years of dedicated service to students in the college. The 2025 nominations are open now through March 14 and should emulate the qualities Dr. Mugler showed in his day-to-day work. The nominee should be summed up by Dr. Mugler’s quote, "They don't care what you know until they know you care." Today, we announced the move of the food science interdisciplinary program to the Grain Science and Industry Department from the Animal Sciences and Industry Department. Ernie Minton, Eldon Gideon dean of the College of Agriculture, said this move enhances the program’s interdisciplinary identity, optimizes resources and strengthens industry connections.
