Proud to be part of Africa's solar mini-grid revolution! ??? We've witnessed firsthand the life-changing impact of reliable, affordable electricity. According to our recent study mentioned in this insightful article from Knowable Magazine, communities we serve have seen median household incomes quadruple after gaining access to our mini-grids! Beyond economic benefits, the ripple effects are profound: - Women gain time previously spent collecting water, allowing them to start businesses - Local entrepreneurs can operate longer hours with significantly lower energy costs - Communities feel safer with reliable lighting at night The article rightly points out that mini-grids aren't without challenges. I helped map heat islands in Reno last summer and wrote about those efforts here and around the country for Knowable Magazine. Local heat mapping campaigns are consistently finding temperature differences of 10F or more within the same cities—enough to expose people to serious health risks. Data from these campaigns can also help target measures to cool urban hotspots, putting trees and heat-reflecting surfaces where they are needed most. Read on for more!

“Combating global warming means reducing greenhouse gas emissions from the building sector, which is responsible for 39 percent of emissions globally”, writes Kurt Kleiner for Knowable Magazine. That is why new methods of sustainable building are gaining traction in the global market. One of them is a new technology called mass timber: massive, manufactured wood elements are used to replace steel beams and concrete in skyscrapers. Its actual impact in reducing GHG emissions is still unknown, and many challenges arise with the use of wood, but it brings forth a sustainable option for future greener cities. ?
