Keypoint Intelligence weighs in on the third and final article of a three-part series by Katie Pyzyk, Reporter at Packaging Dive how digital inkjet printing is transforming the packaging industry. Customization, AI and scannable codes seen as future opportunities for digital printing. Digital inkjet printing is predicted to take?some of analog’s?market share. As?the technology’s capabilities broaden, converters are “thinking in completely different ways” about packaging production. Data from consultancy Keypoint Intelligence indicates digital inkjet printing is only used to print 2% of packaging by volume, but it’s expected to accelerate soon and in some cases replace analog printing such as offset lithography and flexography. #packaging #digitalprinting #packagingdesign #inkjetprinting #digitaltransformation #digital #tech #printindustry #packagingindustry #packaginginnovations #converters #OEMs

Check out Part I of Packaging Dive's Series on Digital Printing for Packaging Keypoint Intelligence was pleased to share insights on this digital transition. Jeff Wettersten | Kevin Karstedt | Jean Lloyd
From time to time, technologies emerge that revolutionize an entire industry. That may be the case with?digital inkjet printing for packaging. While its adoption for packaging has been slow so far, experts point out the technology has only really gotten attention in the space for roughly five years - and they anticipate uptake is about to accelerate. I spent months speaking with equipment manufacturers, packaging companies, and analysts about how digital inkjet printing is transforming packaging for a three-part series in Packaging Dive. Here's the first piece, which focuses on the equipment itself and the differences from analog systems, as well as barriers to overcome to accelerate the digital transition. Thanks to Ryan Fox at Bloomberg Intelligence, Ken Hanulec at EFI, William James Barlow, Jr. at Printpack, Melianthe Leeman at O-I, Smith Lankford at Quad, Robert D Seay at Georgia-Pacific LLC, Keypoint Intelligence analysts, and Kirk-Rudy, Inc. for sharing insight. Stay tuned for parts two and three next month, which will cover use cases (hint: Swifties will love an Amazon-T.S. partnership reference) and digital inkjet printing's potential in the future.
