Kendal Charitable Funds is led by a diverse group of individuals dedicated to transforming the lives of older adults at Kendal and beyond. Kendal Charitable Funds board members share a deep commitment to service and bring unique skill sets to the table that help the organization?carry?out its mission. In this board member spotlight post, learn about Barbara and Dan. Barbara Freedman, Board Chair of Kendal Charitable Funds and resident at Kendal at Hanover, is a lifelong community leader and seasoned professional. She is currently serving her first term as Board Chair, having been appointed in January 2024. Dan Churchill, CPA, Executive Vice President of LeadingAge Illinois, is a new member of the Kendal Charitable Fund board. He started his career as an auditor at a public accounting firm where his clients included multiple senior living communities. As an auditor, Dan enjoyed his time on-site with the older adult residents at his clients’ communities.

Kendal Charitable Funds Programs and Support | Annual Report. In 2022, Kendal Charitable Funds announced the Affiliate Grant process and its mission to advance diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) as it relates to workforce challenges. The grant funds, intentionally broad in scope, catalyzed each Affiliate to embrace creative approaches to addressing unique challenges and opportunities on their respective campuses. Throughout 2023, many of the Affiliates utilized the funds to their full potential, which marked an evolution in their goals around DEIB and workforce.

The Genesis of Generosity: How did this initiative take root? It began with a vision—a vision to increase connection and cooperation with the Alzheimer's Association? and to create a world without Alzheimer’s and other dementias. Since 2018, Diane Massey, MS, LPC, NCC, the Director of Outreach and Engagement with The Kendal Corporation, has championed efforts to enhance collaboration and awareness around the Walk to End Alzheimer’s when she started a walk team for The Kendal Corporation employees. Each year since 2020, proposals have been brought before the Kendal Charitable Funds board, advocating for financial support to encourage staff participation and Affiliate involvement. New in 2024, the board approved a $5,000 allocation to each Affiliate, empowering them to either secure a sponsorship level with their local walk or contribute directly to their Walk team.
