Congratulations on becoming one of the most recent Kelley Direct Online MBA graduates, Liam Purcell! Thank you for sharing your highlights and takeaways! ??
A few weeks ago I finished up my MBA from the IU Kelley School of Business. Out of everything I learned in the KD program, I figured I'd call out three concepts that have really resonated with me over the last few years. 1. Evaluating Sources - An invaluable skill I picked up in this program came from Professor Ernest O'Boyle's Leading Organizations class. He walked us through a step-by-step process for reviewing the sources cited in business articles to evaluate whether they can reasonably be used to make the claim the author is making. It's a skill that I think everyone should have and one that I have used on countless occasions since. 2. The Importance of Emotional Intelligence - One of the more eye-opening concepts from Professor Cristiano L. Guarana was just how crucial emotional intelligence is in the business world. One of the leading indicators of an effective leader or teammate is the ability to understand the perspectives of others and empathize with them. 3. Bias - The concept of bias came up in multiple classes over the last few years. The common theme was that it's important to consider the ways that the processes and/or the data we're using to make decisions can be susceptible to bias. Read from a wider range of sources. Try to make data-driven decisions as much as possible instead of always relying on instinct. #KDGrad
