Twenty-seven educators from central and northern Pennsylvania are taking part in the 2024-25 WPSU Education Ambassador program, aimed at boosting their skills as champions of media literacy. Participants kicked off the program in October with an engaging full day of training at WPSU, followed by a series of virtual sessions and resource sharing that continued throughout the school year. Featured speakers included Matt Jordan, head of Penn State’s Film Production and Media Studies Department, on the five components of media literacy, and WPSU News Director Emily Reddy on crafting radio news stories. Educators are applying the training, with Kate Hoffman designing a media literacy course, Morgan Fogel incorporating resources into her middle school curriculum, and Ashley Kline sharing insights and networking with colleagues. Penn State Outreach—2024 WRAPPED! ?? Click ?? to celebrate an incredible year of impact and innovation! ?? ?? Shaver’s Creek welcomed four new feathered friends: Jane the Crane, Alder and Willow the Rough-legged Hawks, and Stellar the Northern Goshawk! ?? Readiness Institute at Penn State hit a milestone with its biggest Summer Discovery program ever, engaging 68 high school students from Pittsburgh and Central PA. ?? The Arboretum donated 2,000 pounds of fresh produce to the State College Food Bank, ensuring nothing goes to waste and everyone benefits. ?? WPSU snagged a regional Emmy for Our Town: Big Valley! ??? Pittsburgh Connect brought together 100+ students and 25+ companies for the Franco Harris Pittsburgh Center at Penn State Networking Summit, sparking connections with local employers. ?? OLLI Members enjoyed Penn State Creamery ice cream at Millbrook Marsh, with a surprise visit from Larry Terry, Vice President for Outreach! ?? Today is Children's Grief Awareness Day—a day dedicated to raising awareness about the unique needs of grieving children and highlighting the benefits of support from others. It’s an opportunity to ensure that grieving children receive the care and understanding they deserve. Unfortunately, many of us never learned how to navigate our own grief, let alone how to recognize and support grieving children. What little we do learn is often based on outdated or inaccurate information. Replacing these myths with accurate understanding can greatly enhance our ability to support young people through their grief.
