More about the artist Influenced by Eastern spiritual traditions, the unique artistic sensibilities of the Pakistani-American artist Jamali have been called "mystical expressionism" by art historian and critic Donald Kuspit. Jamali combines ancient religious imagery and symbols with painting techniques found in Expressionism and Cubism. He engages in many distinct painting practices such as "fresco tempera" and pigmentation on cork to create modernist portraits. The subject of two monographs published by Rizzoli International Publications, Jamali claims to have been inspired by a vision of a guide who told him to make art.
