关于我们
The IU Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture + Design houses fourteen different areas in art, architecture, design, and merchandising. Our students are encouraged to learn collaboratively and across-disciplines, while immersing themselves in a particular area of study. Established in August of 2016, the School of Art, Architecture + Design merged together the departments of studio art and apparel merchandising and interior design. We are excited to build on our longstanding history, as we redefine tradition and shape the future of creativity. We look forward to connecting with you along this journey!

What if you turned your closet into to a fashion archive and documented what you wore like a historian would? Or recreated the long-lost plum-colored dress Anna Murray wore to wed Frederick Douglass? Dr. Dyese Matthews of Parsons School of Fashion in NYC shared the stories of Black women in Harlem who are creating unconventional fashion archives to make space for the history of Black lives. Dr. Matthews visited the Eskenazi School Monday, March 10 as part of the Bill Blass Speaker Series. Indiana University Bloomington IU College of Arts and Sciences

Designers stand at the verge of a great professional opportunity: artificial intelligence. This technology enables computers to study the world and make predictions using unstructured data. We can speak to machines—and machines can speak back. We can gesture to devices, expressing emotion and intent, and machines can respond meaningfully. We can look to computers not just for interaction, but for companionship. In her talk on Monday, March 10 at 5 pm in the Mies van der Rohe Building, Helen Armstrong will explore the nuances of a thoughtful integration of human/AI capabilities via user experience and user interface design. Helen Armstrong is a Professor of Graphic & Experience Design and the Director of the MGXD Program at NC State University. Her research seeks to demystify AI and inspire designers to harness this technology and establish leadership via thoughtful human-centered design. Professor Armstrong's talk is presented by the Eskenazi Technology Innovation Lab and supported by IU Research and Arts & Humanities AI + Digital Futures Program. Thanks so much to our friends at Mitsch Design, BSA, Officeworks, MillerKnoll, and GMB for hosting our interior design students for a day of learning in the field!
On Friday, February 28, third year students in our D375 Technical Drawing Studio went on a trip to Indianapolis to learn about the design process and how technical drawings support the work that designers do. We were able to make several stops to architectural and design firms, a furniture dealership, and a construction site. A special thanks to Mitsch Design team, BSA, OfficeWorks, Nancy Ramsey with MillerKnoll, Andre Maue and Zach Huffman with GMB and everyone who who made our field trip a success!

The current show in the Grunwald Gallery brings little-known film footage in the Indiana University Bloomington Libraries Moving Image Archive into the light, elevating often marginalized voices, communities, and stories. "You (probably ) Haven't Seen This Before" is a showcase of amateur and independent filmmaking and discarded outtakes. At https://lnkd.in/gMti28jY, learn more about the show and an interactive program taking place tonight (03/06 at 6:30 pm) in the gallery during which Indiana Public Media / WTIU / WFIU's Alex Chambers will conduct interviews about moments that embody a resistance to the status quo. Attendees may participate in experimental camera-less filmmaking, creating art inspired by the stories told. At the end of the evening, the strips of film will be spliced together and projected in the gallery.? Indiana University IU College of Arts and Sciences

Black women and their histories are often overlooked and excluded from conventional museums, study collections, and archives. In this talk for the Bill Blass Lecture Series Monday, March 10 at 5 pm in Kirwood Hall 116, Dr. Dyese Matthews, assistant professor at Parsons School of Fashion in New York, explores ways that Black women in New York’s Harlem neighborhood challenge conventions of documentation and preservation by producing unconventional fashion archives through collecting, making, and wearing clothing. Through a re-imagined fashion archive, Black women assert individual agency and come together as a collective that resists oppression and establishes their important place in the past, present, and future of Harlem. A proud Chicago native and award-winning researcher, author, and curator, Matthews investigates how fashion is a medium and an embodied practice for liberation and identity expression across the African Diaspora.
