Creating sustainable and competitive conditions at every step across agribusiness value chains.
关于我们
Smallholder farmers and micro, small and medium enterprises are the foundation of sustainable global, regional, and local food production systems. Small-scale producers provide over 70% of the world’s food needs. Together with its partners, ITC is building more sustainable and competitive conditions at every step across agribusiness value chains. We are building public-private partnerships, alliances between supply chain operators, meaningful investment and enabling policies which are essential for lasting impact. We help enterprises meet market needs, upgrading value chains and facilitating linkages across all value chain stakeholders. We leverage partnerships to connect people and stakeholders and explore more inclusive, resilient and greener practices that reconcile development objectives and business interests. ITC engages its Alliances for Action approach across the agribusiness projects it implements. We also provide direct technical support to small enterprises, exporters, farmer organizations, business support organizations and industry associations in areas like product market development, quality and efficiency, business development, access to finance and development, and compliance and competitiveness.

Climate extremes are a major cause of food insecurity and malnutrition, making sustainable food security unattainable. Agrifood systems, which contribute over 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, are both vulnerable to #ClimateChange and essential to address. Reducing emissions from this sector is critical to meeting the Paris Agreement goals. Curious about the complex link between trade, climate, and food? In Ghana, the #Sankofa project is helping to build a sustainable cocoa value chain that benefits smallholder farmers, rural communities, and local ecosystems. This initiative revives indigenous land stewardship practices, boosts sustainable agriculture, and ensures a living income and food security for cocoa cooperatives and their communities – with nearly 4,000 farmers and 24,000 household members set to benefit directly. ITC's Alliances for Action approach is implemented all along the production line, from bean to bar, fostering entrepreneurship and assisting with better market access. Read more about the initiative shared by our project partner Fairtrade Africa below ?? #ThisWeekatITC #Alliances4Action
Partners of Fairtrade Africa’s flagship project the Sankofa 2.0 project — being implemented under the Dignified Opportunities Nurtured through Trade and Sustainability (DONUTS) Programme — were in Ghana last week; for what has become the project’s Annual Field Mission to the project’s implementing areas. The team’s first port of call was the Cocoa Marketing Company (CMC) in Tema where they learned at first hand the processes — including warehousing and port operations — cocoa go through before being exported. Another key highlight was a forum on Mainstreaming Agroforestry in the Ghanaian cocoa sector organized by the Swiss Embassy in Ghana, HALBA - Division der Coop Genossenschaft and the Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa. The forum underscored the significant carbon sequestration potential of #DAF positioning it as a valuable tool for cocoa sourcing companies aiming to achieve Scope three climate targets. It also provided concrete examples of how #DAF supports sustainable livelihoods, showcasing its role in income diversification, strengthening climate resilience, and creating long-term stability for small-scale farmers. The Deputy CEO of the Ghana Cocoa Board-COCOBOD Dr. Ebenezer Owusu reaffirmed his outfit’s commitment to ensuring that cocoa farmers and communities are resilient in the face of climate risk as well as thrive economically as efforts are intensified to streamline #DAF in the cocoa sector. The teams’ next stop was the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana at New Tafo, where the Sankofa partners visited DAF trial plots established there for research purposes to study the impact of #DAF approach on productivity, food security and the environment. As part of the field mission, the team also toured DAF farms owned by cocoa farmers who are members of the KUAPA KOKOO FARMERS UNION within the Bibiani project communities. The mission was an opportunity for the Sankofa team to meet with the Internal Control Officers (ICOs) and also meet with implementing partners to discuss the project’s strategic plan for 2025. In Goaso and Mim, the partners interacted with young pupils under the project’s community engagement component who had engaged in tree planting at school and their homes. ??With a vision to make cocoa grown in dynamic agroforestry (DAF) system the norm in Ghana, the #Sankofa 2.0 Project seeks to strengthen the capacities and capabilities of the partners to drive the regenerative agenda. The Sankofa 2.0 Project is supported by HALBA - Division der Coop Genossenschaft #SECO through the Swiss Platform for Sustainable Cocoa’s Landscape Programme, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland through Fairtrade Finland – Reilu kauppa ry, Fairtrade Max Havelaar and NTF V through the International Trade Centre.?It is implemented by Fairtrade Africa KUAPA KOKOO FARMERS UNION, Nature & Development Foundation and ITC. Technical support to the project is provided by ECOTOP and the Cocoa Research Institute of Ghana
