UNESCO has just launched the call for funding requests to our International Fund for Cultural Diversity-- the deadline for applications is 21 May 2025. The IFCD is a key instrument of international cooperation and assistance for the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The Fund invests in projects that lead to structural and sustainable changes in the cultural and creative sectors in developing countries, through the development or implementation of policies and measures that promote the creation, production, distribution and access to a diversity of cultural expressions. Cultural Ambassadors: The Role of Diasporas in Promoting Cultural Diplomacy and Development. I want to share this opinion I wrote for the Policy Center for the New South around how Culture, diasporas, and diplomacy are strongly connected when it comes to promoting exchanges and fostering social inclusion, economic development, and the building of transcontinental bridges. I also highlight the role of diaspora leaders and actors in expanding diplomacy beyond the state, making individuals, grassroots cultural movements, civil society, NGOs, businesses, and other stakeholders into cultural ambassadors for fostering mutual understanding and enabling connections beyond borders such as the initiatives lead by Jeferson Tenorio and Aitolgon Boronbaeva.
