A new tool is available for Hoosiers seeking housing resources. Prosperity Indiana is proud to release a new statewide map of available housing counseling resources. Households in need of information and guidance on how to rent or own a home can find U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) housing counseling services near them by using the tool. HUD Housing Counseling Agencies (HCAs) provide information, advice, and guidance for people who are seeking to finance, maintain, rent, or own a home. Housing counselors also assist those facing homelessness and homeowners in need of foreclosure assistance. HCAs and housing counselors assist with educating clients on best rental practices, how to maintain a safe and healthy home, and how to prepare for future homeownership. HUD explains that HCAs and housing counselors play a crucial role in serving cost-burdened renter households or households that may be facing an eviction by, “helping clients identify an affordable unit, providing information to renters on tenant rights and fair housing issues, counseling on household budgeting,” and more. This new housing resource would not be possible without agencies in the Indiana Housing Stability Network that participate in the Indiana Emergency Rental Assistance 2 (IERA 2) program. These agencies play a foundational role in delivering HUD Housing Counseling services and making services accessible to households in Indiana. IERA 2 network providers assist households in a multitude of ways through HUD Housing Counseling by providing counseling services that focus on “improvement in life areas including but not limited to education, income, housing, and employment.” The new housing resource hopes to increase awareness of statewide HUD housing counseling services, and to further support and elevate the critical and ongoing work the IERA 2 network is doing to increase housing stability and to improve the financial and overall well-being of Hoosiers across the state. You can access the map by clicking here. To learn more about an agency or organization, please click on a point and expand the pop-up feature to access the following information: address, services and/or coverage area(s) (i.e. what county/counties or city/cities the agency or organization serves), website, and phone number. Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA)'s recent Indiana Housing Conference is always a place I can reconnect with friends, strategize (conspire ??) on what's next, and learn what our colleagues are doing across the state. BUT this year, after joining the Indiana Women's Affordable Housing Network - I feel so energized about housing and the amazing people who are in this industry. The day of service projects at Dress For Success Indianapolis and FLANNER HOUSE OF INDIANAPOLIS INC were so inspiring! Can't wait to see what we do! Thank you so much to the Indiana Affordable Housing Council for this donation to iWAHN. Our partnership with IAHC and Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA) conjunction with the Indiana Housing Conference has been instrumental to our success. IWAHN is growing exponentially and this funding allows us to have more events to drive our mission to empower, educate and connect more women and allies in the state of Indiana to get more affordable housing deals done. We are thrilled to be supported year and year by our membership through events especially our Day of Service at the IHC. IWAHN has events to grow our knowledge in affordable housing and connect good people together to better our communities. We look forward to seeing you at our events!!! None of this would be possible without our amazing board of directors. Jennifer Green Jenice L.
