"I know from personal experience how lifesaving these relationships are - I wouldn’t be here without my own mentors." - Alderperson Jessie Fuentes, 26th Ward In partnership with our first school partner in Chicago, North-Grand High School, we welcomed two of our local leaders to campus to learn more about our work and hear directly from our students and volunteer mentors. Both U.S. Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (IL-03) and City Alderperson Jessie Fuentes (26th Ward) visited campus and shared their own experiences having multiple mentors as supports along their personal and professional journeys. The team also spent time reflecting on the importance of representation, both within our mentors and within elected seats of leadership. Ramirez & Fuentes both hope to see young people from the community aspire to and move toward filling their roles in the future! The commitment of local leadership is critical for deepening our work within our schools and communities. 76% of iMentor students will be the first in their family to attend college. Through 1 on 1 mentorship, post-secondary curriculum, career-connected learning opportunities, and social capital building iMentor Chicago ensures more students access economic mobility for themselves and their families. Together, mentees and mentors will explore how connections and networks can lead to career opportunities. They will map their current networks and think about when and how we all need to ask for support. Mentees will learn about professional emailing and pairs will revisit each mentee’s career map with an eye towards identifying how to build connections in their areas of interest. #Networking #CareerPathways #Connection #Support

The Google Team in #Chicago hosted over 60 of our Chicago Public Schools seniors to learn about career pathways and internships, participate in a design thinking workshop, and explore the Google office. These career experiences are a critical component of our work to ensure young people move not just toward a job, but a career!
