Local currency financing and capital market development are fundamental to sustainable private sector development.
For the past 20 months, IFC's Treasury’s Capital Markets Advisory team has worked closely with the central bank, regulators, commercial banks, and other market participants in the Dominican Republic to strengthen the country’s financial markets.
We recently completed a comprehensive diagnostic of the country’s money market, assessing the level of development, market environment, central bank activity, and market resources. The findings led to tailored recommendations to the central bank that outline key preconditions and policy measures to enhance money markets in the country.
IFC - International Finance Corporation has also partnered with the central bank to conduct a series of workshops on derivatives to equip regulators, bankers and other participants with the knowledge to develop a well-functioning local derivatives market.
In partnership with ISDA and the central bank, we just wrapped up a Masterclass on Accounting for Derivatives to help regulators and financial sector professionals navigate accounting requirements in the evolving derivatives market.?The sessions covered fundamental concepts, derivative products, and their accounting treatment under international accounting standards. We also discussed advanced topics such as hedge accounting, valuation adjustments, and recent developments in ESG instruments and digital assets. The workshop was led by senior industry practitioners and accounting specialists from ISDA and Ernst & Young.
