Exciting news from Southeast Asia! The Government of Laos has just published a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) for the development of Luang Prabang International Airport, which aims to expand air transport capacity in one of Laos' most popular tourist destinations. Also disclosed was an Information Memorandum with project details. IFC is serving as the lead adviser for this critical project. Read about the details in the first comment. Nestled at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers and surrounded by lush mountains, Luang Prabang is a place of extraordinary beauty. I can confirm first hand, as I just came from there! I saw up close why the city was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site, with its well-preserved architectural, religious and cultural heritage. The spiritual heart of Luang Prabang is found in its numerous Buddhist temples (called wats) with their distinctive sweeping roofs and intricate carvings (see photos). But this is also a city that's stepping into the modern world. On my trip I noticed how well-maintained the airport infrastructure was. The runway was in great shape, providing for smooth takeoff and landing. Alongside the airport expansion, the city is also looking into developing sustainable tourism initiatives. Truly, this is going to be a transformative project. Look forward to moving forward. ??? IFC will advise the Government of #Belize in attracting a private investor to build a utility-scale solar plant with a capacity of 50 to 80 MW. The project, Belize's first public-private partnership (PPP) in the energy sector, will benefit around 20,000 households while also boosting business competitiveness. "This project marks a crucial advancement toward Belize's renewable energy targets and aligns with the country's ambition to boost its solar capacity from less than 1 MW to an impressive 180 MW by 2042," said Ronke-Amoni Ogunsulire, IFC’s Regional Manager for the #Caribbean. Happy to have taken part in the grand launch of the EDSA Busway Concourse in Manila last week, upon the invitation of the?Department of Transportation - Philippines. In the picture below I'm with new transport secretary Vince Dizon, who told me all about how sharply focused he was on?saving?every commuter travel time.? This new concourse is clean, modern, efficient and provides wide accessibility features for PWDs, pregnant women, and senior citizens. It's also directly connected to SM North EDSA, one of the largest malls in the bustling metropolis--after all, this was a joint effort between the government and SM Prime Holdings, Inc. It just goes to show how effective public-private partnerships are key to building integrated transit solutions in the metro. Congratulations to the team!? As many of you know, IFC Transaction Advisory has been advising the DOTr on a few key PPP projects, and we'll be announcing another exciting one shortly--so stay tuned!

Exciting news for #Belize’s energy future! ??IFC Transaction Advisory is partnering with the Government of Belize to support a transformative solar #PPP to enhance the country's energy security and affordability. This project will bring a utility-scale solar plant to Belize, powering around 20,000 households and boosting business competitiveness. As Belize strives to increase renewable energy capacity by 75% by 2030, this project marks the nation’s first PPP in the energy sector. The solar plant, set to be built with a capacity of 50-80 MW, will help reduce reliance on fossil fuels, create job opportunities, and strengthen the country’s climate resilience.
